Thanks for the kind words gentlemen :) It has come a lonnnng way , and I wouldnt sell it for any amount of money when its done at this point. I have about $1800 into it and more man hours then I can even imagine .

So , I decided to tackle a huge "bug" that has been bothering me. The steering box. If you look back in the thread you will notice I used a grinder head . Though it worked great and there was nothing wrong with it , here is this obvious grinder head among all this custom fabbed work . Just wasnt clean to me so I did something about it .

With the help of a very good friend at Tyler Harney Design Concepts (Tyler himself), We designed a much cleaner and hell of a lot stronger gear box using the gears out of the grinder head. Using his mill, CNC machine , lathe and other boat loads of specialty machines we started work .

After a few hours of measuring , milling and fitting , this is where we are at . It is a much stronger cleaner more custom unit that suits the build .

Pics of the finished product coming soon !

Got a bit more work done to the steering box. The plexiglass cover turned out awesome and passed all strength tests . Pic before it was trimmed down .

Here it is machined down, drilled , tapped , and screws installed .

Tonight I am going to machine a custom pillow block to support the out going shaft . When that is done the lathe will be fired up and the final steering shaft will be made.

I used a regular carbide drill bit at very high speed . Worked out ok as the lower speeds on the test piece chipped . It was easier then I thought it would be .

So more work on machining steering parts to report . Pillow block for the steering shaft that comes out the side of the frame is all finished minus polishing .

Started the steering arm aswell. More milling and shaping is in store for it as soon as I can get back to the shop. got a couple weld in bungs to replace the crappy knobs i made for the front suspension arms too.

So a small update before I get out into the garage to do some work . Finished up the steering arm for the most part . Need to drill and tap one more hole , polish it up and check it off the list .

Got another shipment of aluminum so I will be designing the dash and steering wheel next . Couple pieces here next to the 3D printed Pixar lamp :cornut:

Well Im still working away on this thing. I have been waiting a long time to finish rest of the steering components. But now the steering is complete !

Those rods are the last of it . Redid the steering column into a single piece with bearing and a spot for the ignition .

The foot controls are coming along great too. Tie into the steering column quite nicely giving it that mechanical yet clean look .

Wow this is exceptional.
I've seen quite a few radio flyer kart mods yet, some are lousy, some are good, few a great.
This is far beyond any of those.
AWESOME!
