Hey guys Im new around here and figured I'd share one of my current projects . I am a ways into it at this point but I will post up some pics that will bring me to where I currently am.

But first , here is a bit about what Im makin. its a radio flyer wagon on a fully custom made frame. It is full suspension that is inspired by a ford street rod. It will have a Piranha 110cc pit bike style motor that has 3 forward gears and reverse. I will be adding a clutch kit to the motor to make it full manual. This project is more of a show cart that I will take to all the local car shows and cruise nights, so everything will be chromed and powder coated .

So now here are some pics .

Half of my shifter assembly.


Front suspension parts


Start of the rear suspension .





front suspension .






Front shock mounts burned in . Still need to do the make and install the 2 back mounts for the front shocks.


Added the cross bar to the rear swing arms . The brake caliper will mount to it.




After a bit of shaping and such . Still have much more to do.

I just put a stray rod in the rod ends so you can get the main idea.






Made the left side spindle too. You can start to see how the steering will work out .






And this is where Im at . plan to work on it very soon so more updated are on the way. Any questions or comments are more then welcome :D

Very, VERY nice!!! I love the hot rod styling, I'm going to be watching this build like a hawk!

You can get a pitbike engine with reverse? How does that work- is it a kit or a replacement quad engine?

If those front wheels are bicycle rims, they may not be up to the abuse of karting- however, if this is primarily a showpiece, it may not be a big concern.

I also like how you're doing a classic front beam axle, and especially the longitudinal drag link steering. i'm wondering about the steering performance. You've got a live axle with a rear weight bias and front skinnies, might suffer a pretty wicked understeer. Have you got the Ackermann principle factored in? I can't tell from the pics. How about caster and KPI angles?

I love this build, but if I may throw a curveball at you- Have you considered using a transverse leaf spring for the front axle instead of the coilovers? I think it would look more authentic. Welcome to the forum!

Very nice build! Looks like it should turn out very well. I agree with some of toystory's concerns too though. What is the spring rate on those coil overs? Might be a bit of a stiff ride.

Thank you toystory :) I believe the motor is a replacement quad motor . Its a crate motor so Im not sure what it was originally intended for.The steering on this is quite complicated, Its more of a trial and error then anything. Though through scaling down demensions of a real car , I believe my setup will perform as well as I need it to. I did concider the leaf spring , but I had the coil overs so I figured I would save the leafs for the next project.

The coils are VERY stiff. They wont do much for ride quality but I think they look pretty good if any thing :D

Hi,
What kind and size of front wheels are you using? I will need 4 of these to make a retro F1 car for my kid. Would you show some pics on how the wheels are mounted to the spindle?

I am not sure of the size off hand but I will find out tomorrow when I get outside and work on it.

Ah I forgot a pic of that , I actually used a junk angle grinder I had sitting around lol. Works perfect and has been tested for strength so i know it will stay working.I will get those pics of that asap.

Well peak power is said to be 5kw, which is 6.7 hp. It is said to have 4.7 foot pounds of torque aswell. I think its plenty for me not to mention I have a few performance mods to toss at it.

They have a 125cc version that has 8.8hp but it is a semi auto. I really want that manual clutch so I think I will just go with the 110cc.

Have a bit of an update. Made my steering upright assembly. Got a few finishing touches to make but so far its good.





Here is what I used as my gear box for my steering, an angle grinder head. Yes a bit unconventional but it works great .


Planning in getting a ton more done tomorrow so more pics soon.
