So, the first run was a partial success; the second run was OK?
I'm relieved that its working as planned; when you're on the opposite side of the globe and asked for advice, it's kinda hard to feel like you are in the loop....

Well, yes but, the vid is, technically, of the second run. The first run saw no blade action &, by the time I went down & back, the drive belt came off. After refitting the belts & retightening the P/A bolt, the second run was better.

After I shortened the plug (not that I didn't take your advice, my math must've been off) the third run was almost perfect...

I know what you mean, it's lucky I have a fair understanding of engineering & machining so, at least we were on the same page

Although the mower now "works", there are still a few things to do before I get to refurbish it;
-the gearshift linkage is a bit sloppy which makes selecting forward gear a little difficult
-I still need to properly secure the engine cover; ATM, it's just makeshift...
-The engine cover is a bit unstable, I'll be looking into that ASAP

Apart from that, everything else can wait until winter rolls around...

I have a question:

As previously mentioned, the new engine sat upside down for a few days while I was making the shaft extension & plug. As a result, the air filter got clogged with oil. Now, on most B&S models, this would be a good thing but, it's a non oil filter

What I need to know is will it hinder or help to soak them in fuel for a day or two or just bite the bullet & buy new ones?

Petrol will eat the rubber seals and dissolve the paper

I would shoot the paper filter with brake or carb cleaner, but the pre-filter- you are pretty much limited to dish detergent or Simple Green or such.

Gas doesn't seem to work well with either.

Paper filter once it is soaked by oil/gas it is done for, buy a new one. Pre-filter as stated by Poboy wash out and make sure to rinse throughly and air dry.

Shhhhhh- Don't you know my rich uncle owns a company that makes carb cleaner. They're never the same, but I have gotten more life out of them (paper) that way, especially when they are going to sit for a long time before being used again.

That's a little cheaper than I would expect; here in the States, I would guesstimate in the $10.00 range

Agreed; paper elements work quite well, but they also have their list of "do's & don'ts"; once soaked in oil, they're history.

Isn't there any place local to you that you can get them thru? All three of the auto parts stores in my town, plus Tractor Supply carry the most commonly used elements on the shelf, no shipping required.

Went into supercheap auto today looking for a shifter and stumbled across your filter haha.

$11.45 for both the filters I think, should be on their website, dunno if that's a good price or not

That's less than what Bunnings want for just the pre filter (the cheaper of the two)

Something I forgot to mention, B&S used various sizes of that style filter. If its a original B&S filter, look on the outside edges there should be a number stamped on it. If not use your engine numbers and look at the IPL for the correct filter number.

Aw- just leave it off. The engine will run just fine without it. Lots of people do it. What's the worst thing that could happen? A bug get in?

Yeah- I know, it sucks dirt right into the internals of the motor. Yadda yadda yadda- blah blah. So what? You're going to need a new engine eventually. So what if it's a few months instead of a few decades?

Man- you guys have a long way to go before you can hang with us dumbazz rednecks.....

How about those mental giants that spend thousands of dollars building an old-school high performance engine with a high rise manifold, only to find they can't close the hood.......No problem Abner- we uns 'ill jest run er without tha ear fellter.....gits mo ear that way anyhooze!
