Doug, you need to remember; we allow children to view this forum. Maybe the children down your way wouldn't be nervous if they heard characters carrying on that way; up here in the rust belt? Many of them have been trained to dial 911 if they see anything suspicious....:devil2::smiley_omg::ack2:

See- I'm fortunate -dumb kids around here can google smoogle face book text 'n' tweet and constantly got their facebooks stuck in their blogging twixtin' bran spanking new latest and greatest "I" pod- ( as in: it's all about ME!) but I don't think they can add 911, much less dial it.

I see it coming. ....... new commercials: " in an emergency-text 911....like us on Facebook. ......

Anyhoo, :backtotopic:

Thanks to a tip from jman, I checked the Supercheap Auto website last night, sure enough, they have the filter & pre filter in the one pack so, I rang first thing; snagged the last one for a little under $9, fitted it & it runs perfect :wai: Now onto the next step...

Great!!! At least the small parts are reasonably priced (compared to what you & Fowler listed for the price of a new mower....:surrender:)

Sometimes. I recently priced a used coil for a tecumseh engine at a mower repair shop; $75 if he had one... I ended up buying a whole engine for $10.

Prices for new machines seems a little high to me, which means the price of a used unit will also be high, high demand means they hold their value...

So, how much would this go for over there? This is about the cheapest, which is a close match (by specs) to mine

:ack2::ack2:That was one of the models I looked at when I asked you about importing used ones; the few reviews it got were all in the "Scrap; don't waste your money/ the OEM doesn't stock any of the replacement parts....." type... Price was between $900 to $1,000 US, depending on the territory.:surrender:

U were lucky to find a place selling Tecumseh parts

There's nothing over here

Most places don't know they exist
And others say parts don't exist any more

Pesonally, I'm with almost everyone else, I don't like them, they seem to come standard with carb issues. However, I bought a mower or two cheap that had seemingly minor problems, one only needed a carb clean but, this one is a bit more difficult...

Given a choice, I'll stick to B&S & Honda...

Yea my edger has one

Leaks fuel and can't find parts

So I just let it leak and run it with no air filter
Just put a stocking over the hole to keep big crap out

The adjustable needle is great though

Took the filter out and just tuned it to that
Runs with a bit more poke now

I knew it wasn't a question of if but when; mowing the lawn the other day & the mower simply stopped moving; the engine was still running but, it refused to move. A quick investigation revealed it had chewed up the main drive belt & spat it out...

It was a bit of a task to refit the belt; remove a guard bolted on with the engine, release the clutch pulley to clear another guard, refit the belt & put it all back together, all after the thing had been running for 20 minutes...

I noticed it had a small chunk missing but thought I could make it last long enough to cut the final strip. NUP! Got about another 20 metres before it spat the belt again...

I managed to find a new belt, just need to fit it. I intended to change both but, the gearbox belt was proving difficult to remove so, it stays for now & I'll replace both with kevlar belts when I refurb the whole thing in winter...

Your wife lets you take stuff like that into the living room (let alone the house proper)?!? I'm a card carrying bachelor, and I refuse to do that in my house; I even take my shoes off as soon as I walk in the door, just because I know where I've been that day, as well as just what kind of crap was on the floor where I was.

I'd have to say, if she lets you get away with that type of stuff, she must be a keeper......

Yeah it took 25 years of doing that to run the ex off. I'd say one that let you bring other women in would be a real keeper!

Ok, first, I live with my mother (that's not as bad as it sounds, I'm her full time carer)... Second, I didn't have the whole mower in the house, just the belt... & it isn't the living room, it's the sunroom at the rear of the house...

So, I was thinking, what's the point of sitting down to mow the grass if I'm still in the sun? Solution: make a canopy :D

I started by taking some rough measurements. Then I remembered I had some old trampoline net poles laying around that'd be perfect for the job. A quick check & they're about the right size...

I started with the top frame, a basic rectangle, twice as long as the width. Then, because it would be easier to align/set up with the mounts in place, I started on the mounts.

I cut the first one, drilled the holes & went to fit it, only to find out I'd messed up the measurements & the mouny holes were too close together. A quick zap with the welder, redrill the holes in the correct place & I'm one down :wai:

After bolting the plate in place, I started on the second one. exactly the same as the first; that was my second mistake! I assumed the bolts would be the same on both sides &, as we all know, never assume coz it made an a$$ out of me... :mad2:

Now I'm out of steel so the replacement will have to wait.

Sounds like how I operate. I have to do everything twice

Yeah, how does it go? Cut twice, measure once... no, wait...

So, now I had to find something else to do...

Remember I mentioned the engine cover/seat seemed a bit unstable? Well, I did a bit of research & it turns out my engine cover is incomplete; theres a whole piece missing that stablises the thing (as you can see by comparing pics 1 (found on the net) & 2 (my mower)) so, I set about recreating it.

At first, I was going to make it like the original but, there was no real need & it would be easier to follow the profile that was there...

First I found a small piece of scrap to make a template then a bit of fancy bending around a 1" tube & I have a near perfect replacement panel.

Then I ran out of daylight... :(
