Axel/bearing lock ring won't fit under the frame.

Few more:
What do you do if this happens, make them fit?.

Honestly I do not use Lock rings on my Axle bearings, Just the set screws on the bearings seem to work fine.
Would it fit if you installed it on the Axle first, then bolted to frame?

Jackshaft is in process. I thought the sprocket being outboard look weird too but that's the way I got it and another member here found an exploded view of the kart for me. NAPA couldn't cross the numbers for the axel bearings or spindle bearings. The axel bearings they found/had came with a separate locking collar that was a little thicker than the pen? Part that was wore out. The spindle bearings I pulled out crossed with a napa bearing but didn't fit. I didn't check them before I mounted them in the spindles.
NAPA know how, right?
I was going to take photos of the frame with the wheels mounted, I tried to put the front rims on and they wouldn't go. The originals that I pulled out were 1 3/8x.43x5/8 or .624. These new ones are ID.584 or metric 15mm instead of the 15.8 they needed to be. My fault, I should have checked my self.
Another trip to NAPA in the morning. I called and they said they have laid hands on the right ones this time.
The axel bearing lock collar, I put on a bench grinder and made enough of a flat spot to just fit under the rear frame rail. Wouldn't have been a big deal except that the axel is a few thousands bigger on one end than the other. So I had to assemble everything from one end using a dead blow.
It's always something trying to make old stuff new again.

Should have read, working on the axel.

You know you can edit every post you make, right? Just use that edit button and have at it. Add photos where they're missing, etc.

You can even correct all your spelling and grammar mistakes. :p

Not that I can tell. Appears to be enough clearance for the drum and the hubs. I just needed to get the lock collars butted up to the back side of the hangers.

But will that little button fix a fat left thumb and spell check/auto correct? This I6 will auto correct with words my Apple dictionary can't define.

Remember, I'm absolutely new to all this but the axel bearings are secured front and rear with the frame hangers. The axel floats inside the bearings and is only held in check, outside the frame by the drums that are bolted to the hubs(1/4 inch spacer between the hub/drum and the bearing) then all are held together by the axel nuts. The bearing lock/flange collars attached snug to the backside of the bearing, inside the frame, offers more security and helps keep slack and movement of the axel to a minimum.

This is my first kart and I have no kart people around me that I know of. I'm using an exploded parts view as a go by. Not the most exact way to replicate something that was made 24 years ago.
If you guys see anything wrong, you won't hurt my feelings by pointing it out but you may teach me something and save me a lot of time.

But your right. Making the collars fit under the frame rails is worthless because they would spin when locked down by the set screw and either grove my axel or beat a hole in my frame.

Dumb rookie move.
I'll loosen them and back them off in the morning. Do I need to add anything to the axel to take the place of the lock rings? Or is the spacer butted to the axel bearing, outside the frame, drum bolted to the hub and axel nuts holding it all together, enough?

Ok Slim I think you kinda answered your own Question. LOL
Can you fir the lock Collars one on each side outside the frame rails.
Once locked in place the axle cant move. It is all samiched together.

And yes the spacers samiched in between the bearings and the wheel then lug nut will prevent it from moving as well.
(Yes RR I did say Samich)

I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, I know you're new to all this, which is why I mentioned it...

Most axle bearings have an integrated locking collar much smaller than the collars you have; IIWM, I'd be seeking out this type of bearings...

Don't see why not. It appears that I'll have plenty of room. Think the lock collars should butt up against the bearing, outside the frame, then 1/4 spacer, then drum/hub or does it matter as long as I have room on the (axel) to attach the (you know what ) nut. The only go by I have doesn't show a lock ring at all, only the bearing in the hangers. Since the collars came with the bearings, I thought I should put them on.
