new to briggs flatheads/ is this engine worth using?

So I brought up the bearing idea at the machine shop I work at and showed a side cover to them and they simply said that taking that much material off to install a bearing will only weaken the engine because you have to take soo much material off. I'd suggest drilling some new oiling holes for the bushings and the cam.

Going back to my Raptor engine building days, I found these numbers. This is a Raptor number: 555209 PTO cover for (2.047" O.D. bearing), 692007 ball bearing PTO side (2.047" O.D. x 1.005" I.D.) and 495307S oil seal (1.630" O.D. x 1.000" I.D.). The bearing and seal are B&S numbers.
