Got a package in the mail today. I bit the bullet and bought a brand new Comet torque converter for the Am Ex. I’ve had a lot of experience with the Comets and the Chinese TQ’s. There is definitely a big difference in performance. I prefer the Comet.

I can’t elaborate on any statistical difference but it feels way different than the Chinese TQ’s and to me the motor sounds better spinning up and is more responsive to throttle changes.

I installed my original seat. Put the rear axle on, the steering and the motor. Still have a few things to put back on.

It's aesthetically pleasing and looks the part; sort of retro-classic.

Your pedals are reversed--was that your intention? Flipped around they will give you a tad more foot room plus act as foot rests.

I'd quit foolin' around and get Tri-Stars for the front too. Get slicks too. Make it all match.

I planned on putting some new wheels and tires on the front after it’s all done. Go kart pedals can be tricky. My Streaker pedals look like they could go both ways and so do the Am Ex pedals. I can flip the pedals around. I’m probably going to order some new ones from GPS. I think they have some that are thicker. From the sound of the motor I may have to build a wheelie bar.

Since I decided to go red instead of black, my red brakes had to be polished. Been working on this master cylinder. Need to hit it with the buffer a little more. It’s shining up nicely.

The red anodized coating is a royal pain to remove. Wish I would have ordered the clear instead of red.

Took a pto day today. Was able to hang out in the garage and finish up my brakes. Finished polishing the master cylinder and the caliper. Put them all back together, installed the brake lines and bled them. I must say I like em a lot. Here’s some pics.

Ran into a problem putting the Comet TQ on. It hit the heat shield and wouldn’t tighten down flush. I cut a small hole in the heat shield and it fit just fine.

I had the same issue on a chinaverter, I think I bumped a little bit off the tab with a flapwheel, wasn't much maybe .020 but I don't run a cover currently either. Looks great!
