While we are on the subject, how much oil should I put in now that I am getting ready to run it? I have seen several ppl talk about how much to put in with motor 15degree motor mounts but this one does not have an angle! its a 6.5 hp

Yeah I couldn't find any oil capacity recommendations for 6000+ rpm clones w/flat motor mounts either. I'd probably just fill your engine oil to normal factory specs and see if it excessive pukes oil into your catch can, (like if it fills it up until it blows oil out the filter) or if the engine excessively smokes/burns oil only at high rpm.

Then If you do run into these problems, I'd try researching/posting a thread on a good mini bike forum: http://www.oldminibikes.com/forum/

Or contact this dude, he'd know for sure: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GZAZ_enUS369US369&q=minidragbike

Ander- If it's canned and returned as you described above, you still would need to vent the can, yes?

Oh yeah!

Its vented! I used the old breather that I had originally placed on the valve cover hose!

There ya go

didnt get the throttle cable today. lame! I will get it later in the afternoon 2morrow. Going to get it all ready for the first time on saturday morning. Before I drive it tho. I couldnt find any ethanol free gas. How much will this degrade performance?

SHould I let the engine idle before really hammering down on the throttle? This will be the first start ever for this motor on the kart. I was thinking of just taking it easy for the first couple of minutes.

I think regular old gas is ok. Maybe pour in some ethanol neutralizing addative? I would let the motor idea with no load for a bit before throwing it under load but Russ would be the best to consult.

I doubt you'll notice any difference running an ethanol blend, It'll be fine.

Your engines basically stock and you'd probably be fine no mater how you break it in but I wouldnt let it Idle for very long, maybe just 30 seconds to warm up and then take it out and ride it sorta hard for 20 minutes or so to seat the rings. Then drain the oil immediately while its warm and the metal particles are still suspended in the oil. Then pour in your fresh oil and ride that thing like you stole it.

What oil are going to run?

I'm no big expert on the subject but lots of 4 stroke race kart engine builders think synthetic oils lube so good they can actually hinder the rings from seating in well during that first 20 minute break in period. If you prefer Mobil oil products I'd probably select their regular 10-30 for the break in then maybe go with your Mobile 1.

I know Mobile 1 is considered to be awesome for the forced oiling systems used in automotive engines, but I've noticed that several highly respected race kart engine builders dont seem to think its all that great of a choice for the splash type oiling system our kart engines use. You can get away with using most any types/brands of oil running kart engines at 3600rpm, but if your going to be riding your kart really hard at 6000+ rpm you might wanna ask those guys at your race kart shop what oil they recommend, or search the term oil clone over on bobs4cycle.com. You'll find a bunch of good info over there using the search term
break-in too.

I use Redline oil in my Star race kart engine that has to survive being spun up to 6500rpm all race long. I run Valvoline strait 30wt. racing oil in my other kart that just has a G400 honda engine with a header, race type air cleaner and its governor removed. My honda engine only spins up to 5000 rpm max where the valves float, so I feel most any oil would probably be just fine for it.

What ever brand oil you end up using its usually a good idea to stick with the weight your engine manufacturer suggests.

Hey I did a little more research, The problems I mentioned running Mobile1 was only with Methanol powered engines. The alcohol that washes down past the rings breaks Mobile1 down into sludge, but I found several guys reporting Mobile1 does just fine with mild clone engines like yours running on gasoline. Although I still think its a good idea to use a 10-30 non-synthetic oil for that first 20 minute break in period.

I also emailed that minidragbike dude. He said he'd run 14oz of oil with your engines mods and a flat motor mount. Nothing wrong with filling it up to factory specs, but it''ll probably just puke the rest right back out into your catch can at high rpm anyway.

Thanks man.

I got the throttle, and remote kill switch hooked up. Those were the last things on the list. If it were not dark outside I would go for a spin. I will post videos 2morrow night of the first test drive.

Ran the kart on 87octane. 33MPH clocked with the GPS. Corners like a devil. Video up in a few.
