Tie string to center of rear axle
...& bring it up across the king pins

Your outer, tie rod ends should be "in line" with the string

In the pic of the frame, with "the string", notice where the string & the red rod criss-cross?
...that's where the outer tie rods need to be attached, to have "correct" Ackerman

...as you can see, I do this...a lot

I raised the pipe up in the front so, the front spindles would be at the same height as the rear axle
...this way the frame of the kart would be/set level when riding/driving

* This kart was to be a "ground hugger" (for better/increased maneuverability at higher speeds)
...& I must say, it stuck to the "track" like a magnet
