You can't be serious!?! That's way out of alignment. Add washers being your driver until they are perfect. That's exactly why your belt is wearing.

I didnt think it looked right.

I am going to measure the distance from the backing plate for both the driver and driven and suntract the difference and remove that much material from the driver side spacer.
Advantages of doing this are not needing to remove the driven, not buy any washers and give a little bit more shaft for the splined hub to go onto.

I put the engine and jackshaft on :D its soooooooooooo close to being finished! I just need to install fuel tank, carb and throttle, sort the tc alignment and put on a seat.

Oh and CHECK OIL LEVEL IN MOTOR!!!

Edit: i just realised that the JB weld held up to the bolts being tightened- the leak fix did not, YEAH!

I will be sure to get a vid at the weekend. I really hope this thing has some guts now, it will be a bit better than the 2.2 and belt tensioner.

This close to being finished (.)
I just need to take a small amount off the tc spacer, get a proper return spring and get some grub screws for the pulleys. Oh and the motor doesnt start, but it is probably something small like its oil logged or flooded or I didnt put the carby on quite right etc.

I WANT TO TEST NOWWW! and I would get it working now if i didnt have school tomorrow :(

Ok the motor runs now, and i had a go (i couldnt really test, it was dark), which gave me a few small teething problems:
1. One of the belts is slipping/ loose. It may be just bedding in or it needs tightening already.
2. I think the motor leaks petrol because the new fuel hose I put on needs a clamp, which I have and need to put on.
3. I still need the set screws
4. The tc belt had little bits of fluff on it. I think I need to remove a bit more from the spacer.
5. I need to tighten the front wheel. It has about 1/8" play left to right.

Also I could do with some more aggressive tread on the back wheel! It has not a lot of traction on wet grass!

Oh and is there a product to put on belts to help repel water/ stop them slipping when wet? (oh how I wish I got chain drive to start with)

I am making the go kart jackshaft this week at school. Just a week till 1/2 term. I can then put it all together then.

I found some guy selling epoxy paint on eBay. I am buying 500ml red, blue and white, and 1L white primer. GO KART MAKEOVER!!! It is £25 total for all the paints. They are all 2 part and should be rock solid :auto:
I plan to make purple from the red and blue, and paint extras white.

I also bought some white vinyl and some 1" foam to pad my tillet seat with. Should be sexy.

Yesterday I mounted the jackshaft and axle. Today I made a massive straight pipe, because of clearance issues with the torque converter. It is made from 7/8" i/d tube. The original muffler was 3/4" i/d. It is approx 28" long. I plan to half the length, but I need to do the paint "burn" trick mentioned in "exhaust building 101".

I have almost mounted the additional jackshaft bearing. It is definently needed because I can see the j/s flexing when the motor is revved up. I think part of the cause of the bending is because my centre distance on the tc is 10 3/4" and it is meant to be 10 1/2"

I have now got heavy duty #40 chain installed!!!!!!!!!!! it looks 1,000,000x better than #219. Hopefully it will not wear and fall off as easily, and the sprockets wont bend.

Tomorrow I need to finish mounting the additional j/s bearing and mount the wheel hubs.

I also need to mount the kill switch and steering wheel before I can go anywhere.

I have some foam and white vinyl to put on the seat :wai:

Also, I have blue and red paint that I want to mix to make purple. I may also try to do half blue and half red and merge them slowly, e.g. front red, middle purple, back blue.

I am going to paint the wheels, spindles, springs and pedals white.

MY WINTER PROJECTS!
Wow, wheres the year gone?
Over the christmas hols I plan to:
1. Install rear suspension
2. Fix up bent spindle brackets (no "i told you so" please ;) )
3. Build up my clone to have more torque!!! I hope for 9hp and 5.5k.
4. Maybe add a rollcage
5. Fix up any little weld problems etc.
6. Clean and prep frame
7. Paint!
8. Rebuild.

I have about 3 weeks, starting mid December.
The challenge is on!
I have already stripped the frame completely. Was about to cut off the spindle brackets when our farm "bedding machine" broke down (again!) and I was called to help.
