Nah these are on my axle not the jackshaft. I need to get them off to replace my #219 (sh!t) axle sprocket with a #40 one.

They are slightly rusted.

Oh and another thing I forgot to add is I scored myself a little lathe! It has a hand tightening chuck of about 1 1/2" capacity and a bed of 6-8"! Its tiny but quite cool! It was made by a student apparently and its powered by a 90w 240v motor. I will get some pics and a video soon.

I got it from some guy who lives down the road who said I could have it for as long as I wanted it! Its a bit small though! No axles or anything, more like small components like bushes etc.

Ok heres some pics.
I used leak fix to fix a cracked engine mouning point. It failed, so I used jb weld which looks great.

The lathe has a bed if approx 15" and 10" usable.
The chuck on the widest setting can open to 2". I wouldnt want to have a very long 2" bar though.
The chuck spindle has a 3/8" bore, suitable for 3/8 or smaller bar.
I am planning to maybe make a 1 cubic inch glow plug 2 stroke engine from plans that my teacher has at school.

The bike has now been stripped down to paint.
I have a gx390 carb... Maybe?!?
I plan to straight pipe that motor soon.

 So who built your lathe? Looks good. I wouldn't push the chuck to far; looks to me like an adapted wood working chuck. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you keep that in mind (I've had to dodge to much high speed flying sh*t so far in my career; only about 10% of it was mine.).

You being in England, I'm guessing that the plans your teacher has came from Model Engineering magazine? If he has a link, it would be interesting to look at.:cheers2: Pat H.

Ok thanks for the advice. I dunno who made the lathe.
I will see if I can grab you a copy of those plans, if you want a good quality copy send your email to me in a PM. im pretty sure my teacher made a computer version, but if not I will take a pic.

Nice lathe, saw a small one like that at a flea market... too bad they wanted like $300 for it... Might be fun to build one... someday.

I looked at building one or converting a wood lahe my dad has, but I dont have enough time for more projects!

The hammerite and belts arrived!

Can I ask for some opinions on the hammerite-
Primer or no primer?
Sand and clean metal or let it rust a little by leaving it outside for a day or two in the rain?

Heres a link to the plans

They have 4 strokes and 2 cylinders too.

The frame is primed :D
I will hammerite tomorrow, and leave 4hrs in between coats.
Next weekend, when the paint is properly dry I am going to fit the bike up!!!

It is ok but I havent really used other paints. I would reccomend using primer and a few good coats. Do you have an air compressor? If so you could get a spray gun amd thin the hammerite down to spray it and you will get a better finish.
It is quite easy to use with a brush, just make sure you dont paint it over again (even for a small touch up where you missed a bit after 10 mins) within 4 hours because it will "drag" the paint. Thats what I did a bit.

I used a 250ml tin, but I would either get a 500ml tin or thin the 250ml down (i thinned the last bit, and it worked well). With 250ml non thinned you will probably run out if you do 2 coats.

For my kart I am planning to use some enamel paint.
I will get some pics later. It is very glossy but not very smooth.

Thanks r_chez. So you recommend a primer even though hammerite has a primer in it?

Here is the paint :)
The torque converter doesnt look alligned. Why is this, it has stock spacing?!?! Should I machine (with my new lathe) a bit off the driver spacing?
Edit: the paint looks a bit orange in the pics, but its red!
I cant wait until the weekend, i will be fully assembling it because then the paint will be solid.
I hope it isnt gutless because the pulleys rob power. Looking at videos on youtube they get clones and gx160s to wheelie and go 30 with a cebt clutch so I should get some power.

Really? The driven seems too far out. I will just use it like this then. I thought that they had to be perfect, and the small shoulder at the end of the shaft was affecting allignment.

I made a custom steel spacer to align mine perfectly. I chopped a longer 3/4" spacer then ground it down to fit right. It ended up being about 1/8" thick (3mm?). Heck since you have that lathe now, that spacer could be really easy to make! For a simpler spacer you could just use big washers, but they're not as adjustable.
