Finally i can start the project i have been planing forever. What i have planed for this project is take the yerfdog gokart frame i have and split it straight down the middle. Once i do that i want to pick up a doner quad. What i have in mind is a suzuki ltz400 seems like a pretty tough quad and also has reverse but if money is still tight i may go for a yamaha warrior 350 which also has reverse. With the quad I want to take the front suspension and mount the a arms right on to the frame. For the rear i want to do a irs using trailing arms and dual chains as it seems like an interesting design and is simple. For shocks im looking at some cheap air shocks but still not sure. This is not my first buggy build but this time around i want to do a better job and have a nice reliable fun buggy on my hands. Stay tuned

What i got for a frame and my motivation

Went out to the shed before work for a little bit and pulled the floor panel off and marked everything that needs to be cut. Not much of an update but will have more soon.

Today i went out and sliced this thing right in half then i got some pipe from my pile of scrap and to my surprise it fits in between the tubes so its not a complete but weld. **Note that the flux core welder is only being used to tack everything once i am satisfied i will take it over to my shop and use the mig to weld it all up**

All Cut

For the rear part of the roll cage i will cut off the mounting points and use my tube notcher to get it to fit nicely in the frame.

i see you went back to using the big pics that are hard for a lot of people to view... i happened to be checking out DIYgokarts on my android phone when i saw this, and was like "dammit, now i gotta go get on the 'puter just to look at the pics". lol.

that IRS you're thinking about doing is gonna be a wee bit more complicated than you think...

what was the point of cutting this in half? looks like you're just sticking it right back together. please clarify.

"Finally i can start the project i have been planing forever. What i have planed for this project is..."

are you planing or planning? i personally have never planed. well maybe i did once back in shop class in middle school, or maybe when i rode in a hydroplane in my dreams... :p

I made the photos smaller through my photobucket account and nobody complains anymore. The reason i cut it in half is because the yerfdog spiderbox is a 2 seater and i always wanted to build a single seat yerf so i cut it inhalf and removed 10.5 inches and stuck it back together. And for the irs design the way i have it thought out it is fairly easy to do and will help me keep my short wheel base i want.

I know why the mods want the pics hosted on this site, but I definitely enjoy reading posts with all the pictures embedded instead of in thumbnails.

Yep it's much better when the pics are enlarged
U can't zoom on thumbnail pics on an I phone
But u can on the big pics

Mystery boy your phone should shrink the pics to fit on the page
It should be zoomed so the boarders of the page are just inside the screen

Looks like a pretty slick narrowing job! Are you planning on compensating with the suspension to restore the original track width, or will the track width now be 10 1/2" narrower than stock?

I'll be interested to see how the IRS trailing arms come out.

Toystory I will be adding atv a arms and mounting them right where the frame narrows in the front. I am estimating the front width would be around 58" but it all depends on what atv i go with and what size a arms it has but i can always cut the a arms down but once i figure out the front end and mount it all up i will make the width of the rear 2 to 3" shorter just so if the front fits the rear will follow.

Hey there everybody today i woke up to a foot of snow so i got up early got out the old snowblower and cleaned up my drive way then took it out back and did the area around my shed.

But whatever no one cares about that so once i finished i got back to work on the buggy. The first thing i did was mount the seat real simple just took a while to make sure it was right in the center. Turned out perfect.

After that was all set and done i cut off all the mounting tabs to the rollbars and grinded that all up.

After that i busted out the tube notcher and notched out the rear section of the rollbar. It fits perfectly and is completely level. Really satisfied how it sits.

Then i took the stock steering wheel support from the yerf and quickly mocked it up. But there was a problem it is staggered and just looks silly if i leave it like that.

After looking at it for a bit i went into the shed and chopped it up. The one side i just cut the tube and flipped it the other side was longer so i cut it to size then used the notcher again and welded on the original clamp. To make sure it was all lined up i tacked it then took a piece of scrap (1 1/4 tubing) and clamped the assembly onto that then i just welded it all up. After that i mounted it onto the frame and it sits perfect! I am very surprised it came out so good.

Thanks. In theory the suspension should work great. Others have integrated a sway bar in this design but im just gonna see how it goes and do lots of testing before its final.
