Its not that difficult to put the shift forks back in. all you need to do is open the crank case and take apart the gears and put the forks back in. I've done it before and it would only take you a good hour or two with a partner. its also a big help if you print off the manual for the engine. just a tip if you want.

I know its not that difficult, but it just wasn't worth the time to me. The forks had some pretty bad wear marks on them which made me kind of cautious of putting them back in anyway.

Well my cousin came over today and we got alot done on the roll cage. Pics Below. Hopefully Ill start tackeling the suspension and motor tomorrow. Gonna be going with a double a arm setup all around. Im thinking im going equal legnth in the rear and un-equal in the front. More updates hopefully tomorrow.

Looks great! The only thing I'd suggest is adding 2 more support bars to that cage. See how Honda put those 2 pieces from the vertical to the bend in the cage? To keep it from crumpling in the even of a hard roll over?

Thanks for the tip! Ill do that tomorrow when I work on it again.

That way if you ever nose dive it and somehow land on your cage, that should help it from being bent outside-in.

that peice isnt a bad idea but u dont need it if u dont want

the edge buggies dont even have the triagulation up the front of the roll cage

and they are made for going end over end on a sand dune:D

True. I couldn't notch anything today because my hole saw lost a few of its teeth :censored: got a new one though so ill put that piece in tomorrow.

Geez looking at all of this makes me regret choosing the plumbing course at my tech school :D, oh well a job is a job as long as it pays. And the funny thing is when I explored the Metal Fabrication shop myself the shop teacher was the coolest guy ever too, old timer with tons of experience and funny and me and my friends had a blast. Oh well maybe after high school... Keep it up!!!

I would strongly recommend trying to take a metal fab course when you can. It opens up allot of possibilities, and some places will hire you (machine shops, auto shops, etc) if you have basic metal fab skills :thumbsup:

Because I don't have access to a lathe I have to send my cv joint housings out to a machine shop tomorrow to get turned down. Hopefully they can get it done in a day or 2.

Well got a few things done today...swapped over some my atv tires to the new rims i got in the mail. Chainging tires by hand is a pain in the a$$, but i guess i learned something new lol. I also made my front a-arms which turned out great. The last thing I did was re-do some of the rear end (pics). Im hoping to have a rolling chassis by the end of the week. and a running buggy in 2 weeks :D

All 4 a arms tacked togeather

Got all my tires togeather and ready to be mounted, just waiting for my front hubs

24's on my new rims. hopefully ill eventually replace them with 26's some day...

Gotta figure out how to get this in the frame

This is the part I re-did today. It was made of square tubing so I cut it out and replaced it with round, looks much better in my opinion.


Does anyone know if I can buy heim joints anywhere locally. I need to get them soon and If I could get them locally that would be better. Also, I need to find a way to get all the rust off of my frame but sandblasting it too expensive, and sanding would take too long. Are there any cheap alternitives?

I was gonna use por15 but I thought I had too much rust and id have to remove it all? Doesent por15 make a marine cleaner, or rust preventitive or something like that?

por stands for paint over rust.

you literally paint over the rust. theres a marine clean to clean off debris and metal ready to do some kind of (magical) prep to the metal. but its all in the paint...

yesssssssssssss I really didnt want to remove all that rust. Ill have to pick up a starter kit, and probably another pint of paint for the frame.

I would definately use POR 15 but I think you should spend some time and take a wire brush to the frame to remove any loose rust, then use some sort of degreaser to clean it instead of just painting over it with no prep what so ever.
