Looking Good Frey. I know it can be impatient to not weld everything as you go along but its the best way to build a project to keep it from shrinking and tweaking. Are you using a chopsaw to cut the material? If so you can also use the chopsaw blade to clean and chamfer the edge of the tubing after being cut. Just grab the tubing and hold it against the side wall of the blade and turn the tubing around on the side of the blade. Saves a lil time then having to use the angle grinder. Just be cautious and don't push to hard against the blade, if its a cheap blade it could break and send blade material flying at high speeds.

No body said Fabbing was easy and or not dangerous. Always be safe and wear gloves even if they are heavy duty latex gloves, not the thin cheap ones. I use the blue textured ones from Harbor freight. Also glasses or face sheild. Good luck. I hope to start my mini buggy build this year.

Ive been tacking everything togeather so far just so nothing gets tweaked Ive been using a old Ryobi 10 in chop saw with a abrasive blade to cut everything. Ill think of that when I start using the round tubing. Ive actually been looking for some gloves so my hands dont get so dirty. Any brands you guys reccomend? I always wear safety glasses when im working.

I got alot done in the 2 hours I had to work tonight. I welded up alot of the rear end. Its really starting to take shape finaly I put a sled motor in there as a mock up even though ill be using a bike engine. Putting it in there made me realize again why im not using the sled engine . If I were to use the sled engine I wouldnt have enough room for the driven which is kind of a problem. Let me know what you guys think.

Thannks for the input! I cut and welded the front end togeather tonight. Now I have a rough base frame Ill probably brace the kart over the weekend and start on the cage next week. What do ya think?

Sorry there hasn't been any updates lately. We got around 2 feet of snow over the wekend so all Ive been doing is clearing snow. Tomorrow I might have a chance to start bracing the frame. Ill keep ya updated

I'm not the expert here, but should you not weld the kart up properly as you were going along, instead of spot welding it all together first. I know that warping might be a problem when you get around to welding it all up now.

As I said... I am not an expert, just asking. Nice looking frame though. Good work.

Wellll I ran out of steel for my frame so I will be making a trip to discount steel this weekend to get the steel for bracing my frame ant the roll cage . In the meantime I have been taking apart the subaru axles so I can machine them out and weld in a hub for the center axle. Just a word of caution...taking apart any cv type axle is very messy lol. I guess in the spare time before I get some steel Ill just work on those small, time consuming things in my shop class . Hopefully I can get some more done this weekend !

The point of tack, or spot welding it togeather first is to prevent the frame from warping when you weld it all togeather. Thanks!

Yup Messy Stuff them CV's.

Along with warping from fully welding, tacking also makes it easier to remove or relocate bars that are in wrong position or the need to be modified. Sometimes you don't realize that certain tubing needs to be relocated until its partially put together.

I finished boring out one of the holes in the tripod joint housing today. I should finish the other tomorrow. Pics below. As I said earlier ill be getting more steel this weekend so I can continue on the frame and suspension.

UPDATE!!! I Got all my steel yesterday and braced my frame today My frame no longer looks...empty. I only have to add a few more things then the base frame will be done. Pics below.

Finaly finished machining the tripod joint housing to accept the 1*1/4 inch hub after a week . I havn't really been working on the buggyas much as Id like because of freestyle and baseball. I should be CNC ing out my suspension components on mondat or tuesday. I was searching for a moter and I think ive finally found one. Its a 2005 gsxxr 600 fuel injected motor for only $300 . Problem is...it might be in pieces. Do you guys think that if everythings there it would be worth it to put the motor back togeather?

That engine in running condition will nock you back in the seat , only take it if all the ignition >> coils , CDI box , wiring harness , ignition switch , starter , Carbs ,exhaust pipes ,and even the sprockets , gear shifter arm , kick start lever if it has one ..
I learned the hard way when I bought my Yammy motor , those parts are not cheap !!!! CDI alone for used ones sell anywheres from $ 250 upwards to 600 alone , just make sure all the pieces come with it , Carbs are another big priced item !! Good luck ..
