Finally getting close to the finish line
Installed the seat, hooked up the throttle cable and connected the chain.

I GOT TO DO A TEST DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the clutch is very sticky, it’s an older one from another kart, I’ve had this one on the shelf for a while, even after a thorough cleaning and adding graphite spray it’s still sticking. I May end up buying a new one so I don’t have to worry about the hassle.

Next on the list is to layout the wiring for the lights and starter switch , and eventually disassemble and paint what was welded and raw metal.
Ill ad a video of everything hooked up that was from tonight.

Looks awesome! I actually have a Fox Vortex and 390 engine setting awaiting their marriage! This thread was a great help to get me motivated. Also a total coincidence but the state road I live on is called Possum Track!!

Yours looks much cleaner than mine when I bought it
Now you know it can be done, however it was a task, take your time and think of things before cutting anything up. You may have a different approach than I did with my rig.

Got lucky with the kart, it was barn kept it's whole life. You are using the same setup as my 388 Dingo, its tried and true! Pretty sure I'm going to use this same arrangement. Funny about the name, I've lived here for 50 years, third generation on this land, locals call me the Mayor of Possum Track! Lol

Realistically speaking….. the laser guy cut it out for me, told him what I wanted and he drew it on the computer and cut it out. My plasma won’t cut fine details yet.
Cool thing about it is he drew it so we could bend it without using the brake, which worked great for what this is.
Look at the tabs at the each corner, we folded this almost like paper and the corners came up pretty square with a slight influence of a hammer. The one I made I sheared out from 11ga and pieced it together, needless to say his way worked much better.
But if able you could do the same principle with a cutting wheel to get a bend relief cut to make a box in the same fashion.

I’ll be working on the wiring hopefully this week to get it squared away.

Makes things much easier to be able to cut for sure , I run a CNC punch and cut out all sorts of different shapes and parts, but I’m limited on what tooling we have, the laser has such a fine crisp edge, thats what most ppl like to have there parts cut from.

Yep, when the operator knows his shyt! Turret punches are nice, but a laser has much more flexibility without expensive tooling.

I just got a plasma table. I feel like I'm stepping up in the world with old tech. Wish I could afford a laser to replace the plasma. I have people wanting laser cut stuff and I just can't do the detail.

you’ll enjoy being able to program and cut out your own parts, saves a lot of time cutting and grinding , I hear that, they cost quite a few pennies, the amount of juice needed to power it plus running it with C02 and Nitrogen, those gases aren’t cheap. I throw this out there just for giggles, our shop is between $6-$7 a MINUTE for the laser, do the math, that gets you a ball park estimate for laser cutting. Much much more than a plasma

I figured out the cad software pretty quick. Been doing lots of art stuff and ranch gate signs. Had a few tabs and bracket jobs. I've been pricing by the cut inch. Problem is etsy. "I can get that online for $12"
I tell them go ahead and get it and then you'll see how cheap it really is.

I know exactly what you mean, I still can’t figure out how ppl make intricate artsy stuff out of metal cut out by a laser for so cheap, but your right generally those “Etsy” signs are super thin metal and you could blow on them and they’ll bend

something strong and sturdy will last much longer out in the weather that are made from thicker materials.

But the way, those look good, they cleaned up great to. What amperage are you using if you don’t me asking?

I have an older TD cutmaster 81. Usually 40A for the most part. Machines not very adjustable so I compensate on the travel speed. Have to jump to the 60A stuff for thicker metal.
I was trying out the thin stuff here. This was 18g and 30A if I remember right. Hard not to burn the metal out when it's this thin.
