i love twostokes but i have read that your average(non epa spec) twostoke weedeater/weedwacker/wippersnipper running for one hour pumps out the same amount of particulate as going for an 800km drive in a modern car

Very easy to year them. It's part of the serial number. If no serial, they can still be dated to within a couple weeks.
I've been screaming the advantages of 2 cycle over 4 cycle for almost 4 years...Lol!!! Personally, I think it is sacrilegious to run a 4 cycle gokart at all.
Not if baked properly. I do have spares that were not needed. I've had at least 4 or 5 "bad" CDI packs and all are still operating after baking.

Is this standard for all coils and CDI's. Or just for the lawn boys?

Can you tell some of the process that it takes to bake a coil or CDI the right way? How does baking bring it back to life?

Unknown to me. I never tried it with anything else.
I discovered it quite by accident only to find out that it had been done before.

whats the best thing to do if the sheets of metal on the magnetos arms are seperating?

get a new one or try to glue back together some how?

They are they a bit like the Aussie made Kirby Tecumseh's then RIP:Angel_anim: .

Got any internal photos of the port layouts for interest? Internal bits? etc.

Never seen one in the flesh, but being reed valved and mostly alloy, they would have to make great Kart engines!

I'm starting to see the light, myself! This is why I tried so hard to lay hands on one. Now that I scored one, (bloody finally) I've got my eyes peeled for a small, light "classic" style frame to put it in. I've got to give this a go.

Still wondering which carb I'm going to attempt to use. I may stick with the stock one long enough to get it going on the chassis, and then hunt for a Mikuni or something. I tried looking (Evilbay) for the preferred Tillotson, but didn't find much. I guess they're getting harder to find.

In the meantime, I've just done some mowing with the older one I got (1994 model F, the first machine mentioned in this thread) and I am quite happy with it's performance...

Just a wee update on this- I haven't had much time lately and still don't but-

When we left off, the Duraforce was running intermittently. Some days it would run a treat, some days, not at all. Our resident LB Guru was kind enough to offer me explicit baking instructions after I discovered that I could temporarily bring it back to life with my heat gun. I've never baked a coil before- wasn't sure whether to finish with a glaze, or confectioner's sugar!

I managed to lay hands on an old toaster oven, and just spent the last hour trying to calibrate it. That done, I now have the coil in the oven and have a couple hours of anticipation ahead of me. I also have the coil from my old Tec H60, which refused to spark, period.

We will find out shortly...

yes the mower deck is made of magnesium, the same kind the military shoots into the sky for lighting at night, i have never seen it but my uncle has seen those decks burn, and man do they burn !

Okay- Pillsbury update! The bakery delivered the coil- I bolted 'er in, and the LB lit on the first pull. So it certainly did no damage. Now- I did run the mower before baking it, but like I said, some days it worked, some days it didn't. Now here's something worth mentioning- just before reinstalling it, I noticed a crack in the epoxy potting. In my mind, this explains everything. On the particularly damp days, moisture's getting in thru the crack, and seriously funking up the windings' resistance. When the weather is hot and dry, it dries out and is fine.

This seem to make sense to you guys?

I have half a mind to V-out the crack a bit with my dremel, and apply some JB Weld or other epoxy to seal it up. Thoughts?

In other news, the Tec coil's still dead as a doornail after the treatment. Guess it's a goner. DMM resistance read indicates hopelessness...
