Thanks for this thread. I have another item logged into my head for this years garage sale season. I would never think a mower like this would be worth anything like that. I would walk right by it. Untill now that is.

Out here in the hot desert, winter/spring/fall is our yard sale season. (hardly any in the summer...) I'm guessing it's kinda the opposite where your at?

I hit a lot of yard sales for re-sell items too, so I'll be keeping my eyes pealed for the more desirable Lawnboys from now on like you

Can you get a two stroke mower any more?

victa still make them

the chinese make a clone of the suzuki engine -which suzuki stopped making 5 or 6 years back

not aware of anything else that is still in production

there are prob a few nos tecumseh engines floating around. You could still buy tecumseh twostrokes up until tecumseh went out of business (over here anyway) a couple years back

Are Victa mowers still made in Australia?
Answer :
Yes! Virtually all Victa mowers are assembled at Victa's factory in Moorebank NSW, from components sourced mostly from local businesses. The 2-stroke Victa engines are made in Australia, while the 4-stroke Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and Honda engines are manufactured at their various international facilities. All internationally sourced components and finished goods are designed, manufactured and tested to ensure compliance with Victa's rigorous quality and safety standards.

From the Victa site.

Heres some mowers.

Jeremy.

here is the masport twostoke you can buy with the chinese suzuki clone:

you can also buy the engine by itself. Is quite cheap.

i run a fleet of these:

most contractors are going for the briggs 850 or honda gcv190 engine option now on the new 560s but you can still get all the victa mowers with the twostroke engine

edit: i prefer the twostoke. They last forever. They're cheap and easy to rebuild or replace and i can mow on slopes without damaging the engine.

What am I hogging besides TS's thread!

It's cool by me! When you get it, throw it in here- whatever!

Weird- I started it Friday afternoon before I left town. Took mutiple pulls and some fiddling with the blade stop/kill switch mechanism. Seemed out of whack. Anyway, it did run Friday afternoon. Wouldn't shut off, actually. Had to tickle the kill switch by hand (see above blade stop comment).

Flash forward to tonite- Won't fire period. Seemed to have no spark. Plug's getting damp, even tried pouring mix in the carb. Tried a known good spark plug (out of the other LB). Tried completely disconnecting the kill circuit right at the coil. Air gap looks good, magnets are strong.

I was debating trying the coil from the "F" engine, but it looks a little different and I don't want to get them both off only to discover it doesn't fit. I'd like to leave the other unit in a functional state for mowing, too.

I need to locate the resistance spec for the coil so I can put my DMM on it and see. Unfortunately with the recoil handle going right up the mower handle, and the spark plug way out in front, I couldn't do the "grab it and pull" spark check and couldn't get a clear view of my spark tester either. Will try that after dark...

EDIT- If they stopped making 'em in '04, I guess I got the last of 'em. Kind of impressed by the specs, too- 6.5hp@2900rpm@141cc. It takes a 4-stroke Honda 3600rpm and about 60 more cc's to get that kind of power...

Well, I picked up my mower today and I was sad to see it wasn't a LB. I assumed that's what it was since that's what we discussed a while back. It looks like I'm doing a horizontal conversion and not just modding a LB.

I could be wrong but I think boat motor's are all 4 stroke now as well.

http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/

They got rid of Johnson, but the still make E-TECs. Two strokes are the best solution for outboards. It's not talk radio that's confusing me into hating the EPA. How can they BAN 2 strokes motors. Those folks in California are nuts. Maybe that's why they are going bankrupt. If this is our future, then it's gonna suck. 2 strokes are still so much better with size to hp. The 4 strokes are gigantic.

I hear ya friend. If you ever been to the Philippines/Manila you can see why 2 strokes are banned here in some cases. Just a few hours walking around Manila you will blow your nose black from 2 stroke smoke. Granted lots of 2 strokes on the streets there.

That being said I love it there.

Well... God love old tricks.

It dawned on me at work today that we had a cold, rainy, crappy weekend and all of a sudden the danged thing won't start. I pulled off the recoil housing and gently warmed the coil with my heat gun. I've heard of guys baking their coils, but never tried it. Anyway, 5 minutes later I bolted the recoil on- first tug- Vroom!!!! :bannana:

Back in business. Looks like I need a new coil, but mystery solved, anyway.

Redsox- nice shaft! (ewww!!!) :ack2: What engine is it?

Very easy to year them. It's part of the serial number. If no serial, they can still be dated to within a couple weeks.

I've been screaming the advantages of 2 cycle over 4 cycle for almost 4 years...Lol!!! Personally, I think it is sacrilegious to run a 4 cycle gokart at all.
Looks like I need a new coil
Not if baked properly. I do have spares that were not needed. I've had at least 4 or 5 "bad" CDI packs and all are still operating after baking.

they still make them because the new fuel injection systems they have. same way with other water craft such as jet ski.

i think some dirt bikes and atvs are still made 2-stroke to.

Right on, Thanks Russ- you already I'd this one for me in February, before I got it. Don't know if you caught my previous post, but I did figure out the issue.

I AM quite used to "meter testing" coils. Old habits die hard.
