For those of you who don't know, Texas is ill-prepared for ice and snow (because we don't see much of it). We have had freezing temperatures and freezing rain/sleet. Yesterday I decided to drive through it all to pick up a kart.

The first two pictures are of the way there and back. Notice the overpass has completely frozen over, the black tracks are just ice. At nearly every major overpass there was evidence of accidents or accidents that had occurred with vehicles vacant.

The rest of the pictures are of the kart, which appears to be some sort of Manco Kart with a briggs and stratton engine (larger than a 5 hp I'm guessing 6.5? see serial # pic). The torque converter is a genuine comet, assymetric but one sheave on the drive unit seems to be completely flat. A place for mechanical disc brakes is there, minus the disc brakes. This thing has ZERO shocks, not even front spring suspension. Back tires are 22"

I have been conspiring to put a GX 390 on my long overdue build (see my other post to keep things seperate). It is working out well, and what I really like about this current find is that there is more room behind the seat and the axle has been moved back a few inches. I will be able to accommodate my other GX390 on this kart eventually. I will then take my 7 hp predator engine and put it on a 2 seater go kart of mine, then sell it for Christmas.

The engine has great compression, and probably just needs the carb cleaned out. The torque converter is rusted, and the plate furthest from the engine on the drive unit spins freely. I am willing to fix these up and sell them to recoup the amount I paid for the kart, but at the same time I really just want to sell 'as is' on ebay.

The end goal will be: I will be left with two GX390 1 seat go karts w/40 series torque converters and my little baja heat mini bike with 30 series torque converter. Then its on to making a smoker BBQ, taking a small break from karts next year until i find another one on Craigslist..... I need help, i think i have a hoarding problem.

I feel for ya down there. I've been in Oklahoma when a storm like that hit, to my amazement, it truly did shut everything down because it's so rare in those parts. Here I am, A native Utah boy thinking "what?" Let's go drive in it! Roads like that are just the normal commute and 2 feet of snow don't shut us down.

That aside, I do hope you & yours are ok down there with this weather as it's just not the norm for you.

Speaking of um... go karts.

I've been searching for another sprocket carrier, just like the one on that monster there. It's identical to the one my faithful companion "the sarge" has on her. If it's a 1" axle that is.

Would you be willing to part with it? I'd be willing to either buy it, or trade you with a new one. It's about the look of certain parts for me.

PM me if interested.

Kelly, there's one or three guys here who, I'm sure, would be willing to turn one up for you if you asked nicely; I'd offer but, the shipping would give you a heart attack...

Gran Pann , how much are you lookin to get for the TC and what do you mean the "plate spins freely" ? I have a brand new mechanical disc brake just sitting in my tool box. Well, I bought it like 2 years ago, but it was never used/mounted or had anything done to it. I forgot to get the bracket so i ended up using a hydraulic set up, then got hooked on hydraulic.....

Yeah, the day before it hit it was 80 degrees! It's hard to prepare when you are working on karts in your shorts and flip flops!

Did you get that from Rockwall? I've had my eye on one there.

One of those guys was in a lifted chevy 4WD, large mud tires. It doesnt matter as much if you have 4WD once you hit the ice in the bridge and start sliding sideways. Luckily he only smashed a headlight and messed up his bumper. I think it is worse today now that it is colder. Everything that doesn't have salt on it had melted and refroze last night so its extra slippery. I ended up sliding sideways down a very small incline before the main road. My Toyota Sequoia only has RWD.I had to find another way out of the neighborhood. I was a little embarrassed, but also glad that I didn't knock out a brick mailbox I was headed for.

Yup, 4 wheels slide as good as two.

Built this in under 5 minutes today. We've christened it the Tetanus Two-Thousand!

Just to second what gran_pan said about the weather and all. ... Yes-it was right at 80° before. ......Orange crate can testify as well. And no- most people around here are clueless when it comes to navigating frozen roads. But right now-I don't care who you are-you're not driving anywhere on the roads around here without chains, skill, luck, and some help from above.

Now they are glare ice. 'nuf said....

:wai: Can not tell from the engine I.D. tag is the 1st numbers in the model number 12 or 13. If 13 it is a 5HP 206CC. With a little bit of ice/snow up here in Ft. Wayne, In. some people still thinks it 80 degrees and the sun is shinning, wrecks all over the place. And the majority of them with 4wd have no clue on how to operate them. I can understand Texas and the deep south drivers having a problem operating in that stuff but, these idiots up here should no better.

Go Kart Round-Up

taking a small break from karts next year until i find another one on Craigslist..... I need help, i think i have a hoarding problem.

I sold off all the extras in the garage over Christmas....and its been 11 days since the new year...... (I lasted so long!)

I think the stars aligned and I found these 5 karts picked up for exactly $500 total from 5 different people.

Lots of work and money for parts (esp tires) now. Will be keeping just the orange one most likely.
