I've found that its really hard to keep the throttle steady over bumpy ground, anyone have a solution besides hand controls?

:iagree:

Probably time to start considering a snugly fitted race kart seat for a kart as quick as yours too. You'd be amazed how well they hold you in place so you can concentrate on driving instead of slipping and sliding all over the place.

I've seen some used $150 Tillett brand seats (my favorite) selling for $20 or so on my craigslist and theres some fairly inexpensive brands selling new race kart seats around the $50 range.

Yea i have been thinking about my seat options, do they make small race kart size seats with places to attach a 5 point harness? Im bringing my kart into the shop next week to do the roll cage and re-do the front end with 10* of caster and KPI. I'll make a good heal rest while I'm at it too! i didn't even think of that but great idea.

I'd think you'd want your seat belts attached directly to the frame. That way even if the seat broke loose you'd still be held in...

I've picked up really nice, used Simpson race belt sets super cheap cause they had reached an age where the sellers race association didnt allow using them anymore. (they have dates of manufacture on their labeling) If you can find someone that stored their race car inside, an older set should still be very strong and work out just fine for ya.

acctualy 5 points dont hurt your privates as much as you think unless the waste straps and the sholder straps are loose and you slam on the brakes. and yes you can put a harness on those seats the harness gets welded to the frame anyway.

well swine flu got me down so i didn't get a chance to bring the kart in for a roll cage, thats gonna have to happen after thanksgiving break now. But i took advantage of being in bed all day and learned to use google sketch-up, i got 2 plans for roll-cages. My first option seems strongest to me, let me know if there is anything i can do to strengthen it. By the way, everything is to scale for the most part.

For the whole cage i measured a total of 35' needed, sounds about right. My shop teacher was telling me that 1 1/4" tubing is a good size to use, not sure what wall thickness he was using but he said that 1" .095 wall was too wimpy for a cage.

Yeah, If your shoulder belts are too loose with a 5 pt harness and you mash the brakes at a good speed in a racing seat, You will slide forward and it will hurt a lot. Especially with the lay down seat pan in my dragster. That was not a fun experience.
