I like the previous wheels better. What size were those tires?

Yea, me too but those steel wheels on the back (and the cheap hubs) are a pain to get just right so I'll have to work on them or find some other solution. I like my wheels to at least be close to true and anyone that's ever run a kart at 50 knows that if something is not true, you're gonna feel it.

The previous wheels (rears) are 12 x 6 x 6 chen shins. They're 2 ply and the same ones I use on Sarge in the back. The fronts are just chen shin standard 410-350-5's.

The skinny tall rears are 12x4.00-5 bigfoot concession tires.

But, for now these will work as a test because they're straight. I've got 4 different wheel sets I can't decide some days... and when I can't decide for sure, I just throw on some flat black something or other & go for it.

And Unit 51 still, is not right. I've got all this crap at my disposal and what happens?

In the middle of stripping all the wheels I have, I come across the old chrome rusty 5" steelies.

Sure, all the wheels I've slapped on this thing will work but the intent was to create an old school looking car...and one thing that stuck in my head was the steel wheels used on older stock cars of the day.

Plain old steel wheels... but chromed.

Yep. I found the right ones.

On a side note (and note to self) stop collecting wheels dude.

Update 1 of 2:

not your usual update, just stupid stuff really...

BUT...

Somewhere along the lines of this whole adventure, someone asked what the differences in the Manco wheels were.

Here's some for you.

See the pics. There were actually 4 generations of wheels made. The final generations only had three NUBS to keep the bearings from going inside the wheel and are not pictured here. But the pics shown here show you the sidewall (the bead) thickness.

In short, if you find the Generation 1 mancos, betcha they're not broken. They were twice as thick as the final runs of them.

Thanks! It was a good day. Took me all day because as one might imagine, all these parts have never played together before so it's still a work in progress as they get to know each other, but it's a runner. Throttle cable & brake cable, and some luck, a clear day tomorrow (probably not, but we'll see) and we'll throw down. I totally expect to break something and end up pushing this thing back to my house.

But in person, she sounds really nice.

Update:

Took the day & finished up a lot.

U51, just more little things here & there... and, I think the lights make it. Next weekend I'm taking it to the track with me to tinker with while my kid races so we'll see if we have a runner by then. I am doin my best but of course, I get side tracked...

By the second ride seen here... Bare bones Baroness.

Now functional, rolling, brake system functional, all frame parts in place. Basically, add motor & we could drive it. I do love how slammed it is resembling the old school racers.

So do the "hub caps" on the Baroness bolt to Manco wheels? or can you put them on any wheel?

Yep, I had them made special for Manco Wheels when I got upset one day that a set of go-powers slipped through my fingers. (some troll stole them after I'd made an offer... and they accepted it) They only fit the Manco wheels.

I have the designs for tri-stars too should I decide to have some made.

Update:

Half way through the racing season and it's time for the usual, replacing stuff and getting stuff fixed.

Currently, my daughter is still 2nd in the points running even after a crash last time out... so all is good. First stop, the pro's need to fix her frame. It's a tad off.

Seen in pic 1, racing pros Mike Beeney and Bonnier Moulton fixing it.

Next up on pics: Tubes. I have to take stuff to the track these days as I'm just a dad on the sidelines now... and I need something to do.

Unit 51's going with me this tims so I can tinker with it & put other wheels together. So, some fixed tubes for that.

Then, as racing tends to eat up things...in this case, clutches, it was time for a change and with a new unit on my kids ride, that frees up two (2) noram Stingers for me to fix... and put on Sarge.

As far as clutches go, there's probably three that I'd even recommend for racing purposes, meaning, classes that use any STEEL DRUM type of unit. Sure, there's better than this, but these fall in the range of 70 to 115 bucks.

1. Noram GE (typically the longest lasting clutch I've ever seen.
2. The Hillard inferno/flame
3. THe noram Stinger.

The first two are great all around and easiest to work on for sure, but the stinger's smoothness and at two times the weight of the others brings intertia... and a pain in the butt to clean.

Last pics, the Noram Stingers I have to play with now. 15, 16, 17 and 18 tooth gears too!

Oh yea, that video made the rounds in these parts. Funny thing is, it's the same class as she runs. Sr4, LO206. I'm sure he broke something.

Here's a shot from the gopro... after the initial hit, karts were everywhere and this guy plows into her... he came out of his seat.... his SEAT came out and, well... you know. Bent frame=bad handling.

50MPH hits hurt. She felt it for a few days.

We'll pause a second while we go a different route today. Seeing midlife and empty nest syndrome is right around the corner, I'm finding things to do.

Today, start my own local business.

It all started with some old geezer that moved in across the street a few weeks back... this guy is so old he actually offered me a seat and some lemonade.

Anyway, his mower didn't work and I offered to help him out. Within an hour, I had it all fixed up and they mowed their lawn.

Great... now i'm the guy in the neighborhood that fixes this crap.

How wonderful.

So on a whim, I threw that blue clone in the local ads. Within a day I got numerous texts and a guy came to buy it. I wanted 75 for it but thought... let's try something.

He had one of those "baja" clones that won't run.

I told him 50 bucks and you bring your old engine to me and we'll do the deal.

He comes by, I start it, he's happy... 50 bucks in my pocket and this new pile of crap here.

Salvage I - Kelly's small engine repair & exchange.

Seeing these turds are simple to fix, I figured we'll try this route.

75 for a runner, 50 for one with exchange. Sounds fair.

Now to the fun part.

I'm starting to think that someone BANNED from Texas moved here or something because this poor engine just.... well, Look. There was electrical tape on the carb & gas tube and the tank was held on by a WINGNUT...just ONE.

The guy said "My engine won't run."

Why I'm thinking?

After some routine checks, ah, there's the problem.
1. The kill switch is missing, it got ate by the flywheel. So what. It would run that way... but...
2. The oil is aliens blood
3. THe carb gaskets are on backwards
4. the plug... well.

In the end, it has spark, compression & all. I can make it run, no problems there.

Then it's back on the market, 75 bucks for a runner, or 50 and trade me for the sad piles of crap the public just can't maintain.

And another guy is coming over tonight.

Yep.
