So sorry to hear about your mom. I know it's rough dealing with. My mother has been in remission for a few years now, but it wasn't looking so good 3 years ago.... They gave her a "date".... Then came back and said," o we were wrong! your gonna make it..."
A coworker is going through the same thing right now. The Dr.'s gave his mom 6 months...
I couldnt imagine what you're going through, and I'm sure you have a "shoulder to lean on", but in any case, I'm here for you man, if you just wanna shoot the breeze....or whatever...... Jimmy

Ah... after a time you just have to get back to things.

With the racing season coming to an end... it was time to bring out the rides and take a fall cruise. Sarge & Urban defiance are just fine after a long break, running still quite well... now sitting in their little portable garage.

Back to business. On with the Baroness soon.

Thanks.

Ahem...

Continuing on...

With my mom passing, my dad has continued on and doing fine. He's decided to clean some things up... and weirdly, my other two brothers didn't want these... so I got them.

I used to actually step into the dump truck, feet side by side and ride them down the driveway when I was like... 8.

Yup, count them... 7 of my childhood Tonka's.

Wonder what I'll do with them...

And a Safari Jeep...

Thanks!

Update:

Lunchtime drawing time!

2 versions. V1, a shorty.

V1.1, the usual stretched version.

Hm... I'll type more later about this one... LOL If the dump is on the back, it'll have to be bigger than the stock one... maybe have some mods to do. If on the front... makes a nice tray for stuff... like a cell phone with someone's app on it.

I'm diggin both actually... but the shorty might be interesting.

Yup, as usual, we'll see how it goes... I'm leaning for a stretch job like the others for stability... and the front being a combination like the short one. The dump needs to be part of the front... for a neat little cubby hole up front for stuff... plus it makes it long enough.

So, onward.

I did a once over on the Tonkas I have and decided to ultimately keep one set of the two I have... which means... figure out which ones to save, and which ones to use for parts on the others and this build...

First up, find the dump truck that's the most beat up and use it.

And that must have been my favorite because I remember chucking one of these dump trucks off my garage as a kid... and lighting fireworks in the drivers seat... and dumping oil in the back... and... Oh heck... Wait, did I attempt to set this one on fire? Nope. Whew.

Too bad they don't make stuff like this anymore... perfect for the Kart Rod. Authentic, tough... and it gets a new life. I'm sure it always wished it could have a heart (an engine, be a real boy...) and it's gonna get one.

Found it, disassemble, clean up, bend back into shape...

and I don't even have a kart frame yet for this one.

Anyway, parts, check.

We'll hook these two together and put an inner frame into it for the front clip... then some nifty additions.

The engine will be yellow most likely... Air filter cover and engine cover could see other tonka parts.

Please bow your heads in a moment of silence. A few Tonka's are going to lose their lives in this build... and one already did.

Know what amazes me? See the little exhaust stacks on this? They're rubber... and still flexible, not a crack in them, totally fine... after 40 years. Why don't we make stuff like this anymore?

:stir:

Hi, sorry I've not been around too much but... well, life gets in the way sometimes.

The Kart Rods are on hold for a bit while things here get rearranged, etc.

My daughter is now racing JR Rotax and with the introduction of the Briggs LO206 at the track, the competition has been immense and I've been racing too.

Next year, there should be a good 30 racers in my class alone.

We got our butts handed to us last year and only pulled 4th for the season and that included 3 Rain races (rained all 13 hours) too.

Yup.

So a few pics. My two rides for the racing this year. The Tonykart and the thrasher. I still throw a few "old school looks" into whatever I drive. :)

I'll return soon.

Kelly
