Update: Sunday morning and one last thing to come up with... the chain guard.

Originally I'd envisioned an ammo can but it got too boxy and there's limited room there... so I went digging for something I knew would work and finish off the look.

... The Control housing that the gunners handle came from.

Yup. Lots of grinding and I have to make a mount for it, but it'll work well.

Quick update:

Figured since the Baroness is reaching a certain level of coolness in my mind, I ordered 2 more Chen Shin 12 x 6.00 x 6's and took the existing rear tires from Sarge and slapped them on.

I needed to see what it looked like.

Even though not done and I'm struggling with what kind of steering wheel to put on her, it will travel to the track this weekend so I can sit & draw/think, etc. while we race. The sarge & some others of mine have become kind of like side attractions and some folks are kind of expecting me to bring the others... so this weekend the Baroness will ride along.

I know people don't respond tons lately to this thread, but I'm interested to hear what y'all think so far.

I love the way it's turning out and the addition of the rear tires makes it.

Well...

I like the wheels,

the ping-pong-paddles not so much I'm afraid.
A bit more contour and a tad bigger, otherwise that detail gets lost because of that huge airfilter.

The gun looks a little lost where it sits now..
should move inwards and be raised about 3-4"

IIRC The Fokker DR1 had a half round steering wheel with two wooden grips...
So maybe a wooden butterfly steering wheel would match the theme best;
maybe even with an extreme dish *shrugs*

I have to agree with 'Sid, as for the view from the right; the air filter just overwhelms the fins. Maybe a photo of the left side for comparison? All four corners when you have her at the track?

As for posting a response every day, all I can do is add the small things I've been doing; I'm a field tech and a machinist. Your artistic skills/ vision greatly exceed mine.

That being said, yours is one of the top threads I scan for and read every time I have a chance to log in. And if you and your family happened to decide to relocate to the West Michigan area, I would greet you with open arms if you settled in my neighborhood (and a case of real beer to boot)......

Update:

That light at the end of the tunnel isn't what you think it is... it's the train. (says my mom)

Well, sorry for not posting for a little big but things have really gone down a strange road here.

Last race, daughters new briggs (which is on the recall list) nearly grenades, the frame gave up and now is twisted.... and nearly everything else that could have gone wrong that day did.

... and a day later I find out my mother is dying.

Nice.

6 years of 3 chemo treatments and it's spread to everywhere. She's gonna let be what will and ride it out. What a lady.

Anyway, took the baroness to the track & shot a pic or three. It has a completely different stance out in the open and folks really enjoyed it.

Update (again)

About face suckahs!

Don't ask me why I did this but it just came together. While at the track, someone turned me onto another manco single seater which the Bonneville spirit here was originally based on... until I lengthened it that is.

So I have a replacement frame for it because I'm going back to what it was, I'm sure Sid will be happy about that.. as am I.

With this info in mind, I'm in my little carport goofing off and I decide to take Bonneville's stuff and set it aside for the new frame.

Running out of room, and I hate the rickety POS frame of the semi... I tear apart the semi.

Yup.

I throw the now lengthy ex-bonneville frame on the stand and...

... well...

almost forgot... it is kart rod related... cause I built it.

Since the daughters kart went south... I built her a new one from donated stuff.

I think I did pretty good. A fairly new CRG.

I'm sorry to here about your Mom; Alex (Sid) hit the nail on the head. Please add a hug from me as well..... I've lost several family members to cancer or tumors, and wouldn't wish that on even the most hated people in my life....

As for the mundane, I think the longer chassis will fit the semi pretty well.

Thanks a ton guys. I'm still here, just nothing to report. Life is in the way so I'll be back as summer is winding down.

It's been a strange year.

Update: Well... Last Wednesday my mother passed away. It was peaceful and in her sleep while the entire family surrounded her.

Meanwhile, the racing continues and this year, we're getting our behinds handed to us. Might still make podium though, we'll see how it goes. The new Briggs engines are extremely consistent and that's changed the game for the whole class.

My daughter is growing up my friends. 15 now... but still running in the front... with 5 hungry teenage boys chasing her. Lucky me.

And as usual, Sarge accompanies me to every race. She's gone through the whole year starting with the spring rain races to the 105 degree summers and it's finally starting to wind down.

What a year.

I'll be back soon, just gotta wrap up a few other things and close the books on this one.

Then it's back to The Baroness.

Sorry about your mom man. That's a tough loss, I miss mine dearly. For those of you who still have your moms (and dads) around, call 'em up and tell them you love them. You won't always be able to.

I've read through this entire thread now over the past week, and I have to hand it to you... You are one creative dude! I love the ideas and ingenuity, keep it up. I'll definitely continue following this thread.

One other update.

I've found the place to run, the real deal race... haven't done it yet, but it's a place that's pretty neat.

I drop the step kid (wife's oldest) off for work now and amazingly, she's kept a job for 4 whole months now. Guess things are going good now eh?

And I found this... check this out. Gotta love google earth & maps for the pics... I checked it out personally and it will do nicely.

Pic 1, what was there., a nice hilly thing with slopes...

and pic 2, now a parking lot right on those slopes,

It's abandoned on the weekends and really well hidden.

It has numerous islands and is surrounded by hills making it perfect. It has high sides, low sides and one side you could even go up a dirt hill, turn around and come back down... Making it perfect.

The UKF (urban karting federation) will roll soon... and there's a few drivers too.

Nice place for UKF! I've found an abandoned Piggly Wiggly near me. Haven't had time to try it out against neighbor complaint/police response time yet though.
