Juggernaut clutch problems

My Monster Moto MB212 mini bike came with the same spacer installed in the drive clutch. Removing it got me an extra 5mph on the top end.

True, with a factory cam/power curve, it will slightly reduce top speed.

But if your rpm is being limited , as other forum members have reported hitting a "wall" their motors cannot rev past, this can help.

I kept the ring in my sleeper monster moto MB212, I just upgraded, looks stock outside, modified factory airbox/ exhaust, but gov delete, flat top piston swap, marine cam, ratio rockers, milled .040 head, .010 gasket, ported, 4 degree advance, genuine honda coil.

It is faster with the ring installed, with the modifications. Factory gear ratio and tire. Its lots of fun , if you floor it in the yard, it can slide out from under ya! Might need a more aggressive rear tire.

I did try to cram the 357cc engine with a 30 series into the MB 212, but it was going to take too much modification. Also a Tecumseh hm80, but again, custom mount or jackshaft. So the mud mower should do donuts hopefully.

And I settled on modifying the factory motor, that I said I wouldn't do :p

My MB212 is stock with the exception of the clutch ring removed. I have the same problem with the rear tire sliding out when ever I hit a mud hole, soft spot, or loose soil. I believe the problem is the tires were designed to be used on the front of a 4 wheeler. I've also read there isn't much of a selection for different tires.

You may need to figure out a different wheel size to open up tire selection, if that is an option. A knobby tire will probably do better than the Chevron style tread, if that's what is currently on the rear.

The factory tire size is 19-7, 8in rim. I think I might grab one of these.

The stock tires are off road style, but as mentioned, intended as steer tires, and just do not hook up well. Turf tires do better lol.

Please post how they work when you get them mounted.

Can you post a pic of this new "spacer" installed? I'm not following exactly. Why is a wider spacer limiting the pulley travel? I actually spaced mt 30 series out a tad with a washer to use the wider standard comet 3/4 belt VS the more narrow china belt. What RPM are you seeing on the 30 series driver now?

Also what width belt did you use on the juggernaut? the 3/4 inch comet belt seems to grab hard and not slip at all. Are you using the smaller belt perhaps?

So the spacer had a bigger OD, or lets say wall thickness, than the brass spacer.

So with the factory brass spacer, the outside sheave can slide over it,
and the clutch works like normal, the weights will push the movable sheave all the way in until it hits the other "flat" sheave.

With my spacer installed, the diameter is bigger, so the movable sheave cannot slide over it. So when the movable sheave hits the spacer, the clutch cannot close any farther.

I hope the pics clarify, I can make i video if need be.

I am using a comet 203589 belt, for both, and with the custom spacer the engine can pull past 6k . With the clutch stock, it can't break 4k. Changing the gear ratio steeper did not help at all.

So I am done with this bike, the clutch is very well tuned for the motor, shifts just right, unrestricted top end, its a blast to ride!

Anyone want to buy a juggernaut? lol

Please post how they work when you get them mounted.

I will Friday!

I might give this a try on The Ditchbanger! I have a crappy gear ratio (5.4:1) with 19" tires so maybe it'll help it along! Thanks for the info.

No problem, it will not affect bottom end, but if your motor is dogging out in the top end/ top speed, this will make a big impact.

I think this will help those more who are trying to push more rpms through a 30 series, as it may not just be a gearing problem. At lower/ stock rpms, top gear/overdrive does not restrain torque transfer.

But with higher speeds, and modified engines, the clutch all the way engaged, like at top speed, there seems to be a limit, that just chokes it. Blocking off the top end of the clutch seems to allow much more power transfer at high rpms, that a gearing change alone will not fix.

Anyways, I hope to test the 30 series to the limit with the mud mower, and FNR box. It's getting much needed upgrades, such as frame reinforcements, rack and pinion steering, rigid front end, lowered , hydraulic brake, repaint, and more. Plus the 357cc upgrade of course, shes running mint. Just a wee bit of vibration at idle, removed the optional balance shaft. Still want to put it in the monster moto 212. Or a 440cc big block stroker with a fat cam and big valve head.

Think I got it, thanks. Just a matter of finding a pipe with those exact dimensions! Know where that piping you had was? Is it SCH40 stuff? Happen to know the diameter? OD/ID?

Hope this helps. I seem to forget not everyone has an abundance of scrap steel lying around. The first piece I picked up , a cutoff from an exhaust I made couple years ago worked perfect. No idea what it was.

Im sure you could do something similar with the juggernaut, but isn't that like the whole point of the product, that it does not limit high rpms? Thats why you spend $120 on it, right? Are you having top end issues with yours?

I agree. Like you though, I already bought the juggernaut. So it's a paper weight if I don't use it. I'll try both I suppose. Feel like the 340 clone is a better design anyway. :cheers2:

They look good! Did you do any riding with them yet? Any clearance problems?

Thanks, no clearance issues, direct fit.

Man do they hook up well! My backyard is half standing water and muck (listen to my footsteps lol), and it did great. Before in the same spots, if I hit the throttle, the rear end would just kick out.

A little more road noise at 55mph, but not bad either.
