read the other posts we already convinced him to narrow his expectation to any sort of speed up
also id agree with freakboy a well desgned bike is still not safe to dive flat out around corners and in the rain well .......
where as a gokart well desgned can do most cornerns flat out (within reason ) as rather than falling over it wants to slide first as a warning sign to tell u to slow down

edit
i just converted the speeds into metric to get an idea of how fast this thing goes and i gotta say
64kph is fast and i reignite my argument that 80 is way over the top i mean 128kph
id aim to get it going at 45 mph cause 70kph is quick and i gotta say if my kart ends up doing that ill proberly turn it down

mostly because you dont have to completly rely on your grip to stay on unlike a bike were if your going fast enough wind resistance wants to push your *** off..

You obviously dont ride road bikes. The faster you go the better it becomes. The streamline affect works a lot better at speeds of around 100kph. Doing 130kph (80mph ruffly) on a bike is a breeze. I would feel a lot more comfortable riding my bike at 150kph then a go kart. A kart i would be scared ****less to take it over 70kph.

I have no freaking idea what the conversions are for Kph and Mhp.... but anyway if you wreck... on either at the same speeds its gona be the same thing you fall out and you try to roll as much as you can... and you should be wearing a abrasion suit full face helmet neck brace racing boots and gloves when goin that fast on a kart anyway as you should be wearing leathers and riding boots and gloves and full face helmet while riding a bike...

**** this great went beyond of what I expected, but thats good , I love all the comments / info provided. I did not change the sprocket yet, there was a guy here talking about bearings being good, well on my kart you can lift it up and spin it and ill keep spinning until it slowly comes to a stop the are lubed up pretty good. All I am shooting for now is 45-50mph, since what i was aiming for before was a suicide mission but it would be pretty bad as to do 80 and be 1" or 2" away from the ground. And yea when i ride my kart i do wear motorcycle gear I had one before and I got all my gear left so I feel safer with that on just in case i fly out.

Depends. On a kart if u crash u get launched or roll with the kart which is how my cousin died. (racing a dune buggy and it rolled and he got caught under the roll cage and the ground). On a bike you can either low slide it or high slide it. Low slides are fine as u sort of come off with the bike and slide across the ground with it and generally only results in a broken arm or badly bruised. A high slide however is where you get launched over the handlebars. Not good.

Yes it is. Mine caps out at 72Km/h and it can get pretty hairy. Mind you, that's on a dirt/gravel road. My engine's almost perfectly stock, so I could go faster, but-

Unless you're actually racing, or doing laps around an actual track, insane top end won't do much for you. You gotta believe me, it's a lot more fun to roast the tires, drift at will, make yourself dizzy doin' donuts, get pinned into your seat when the rearend does hook up.

Anyways, yeah- 45-50 is a lot more realistic. Good luck.

Yer the whole fun about karts is the acceleration. Spinning the wheels, drifting, whipping it out. Dont 70kph isnt fun in my books.

A kart is so light it wouldn't hurt you to roll under it once or twice, sounds like you cousin wasn't wearing his harness?

I did say dune buggy and its not light. It weighs at least 200kg.

Plus momentum, all forced onto your body through the narrow roll bar, it's enough to cut limbs off, lost fingers are more common than you'd think.....

Why are we talking about cages when racing karts except champ karts dont have roll cages? you are ment to get flung out if you flip and go sliding... unlike a dune buggy were you should be wearing your harness and you willbe fine..

This was back in the old days (about 35 years ago) when there were no 5 point harnesses. It just had a seatbelt out of a car. When the buggy rolled he slipped out of it and consequentially got caught in between the cage and the ground which killed him.

Ok now i can see that if it was a regular car seat belt...

and for the record there were 4 point harnesses back then.. they had them since ww2 and mabey before that.. they were used in fighters and bombers.. not to hard to find them nor bomber seats..
