would it be better to put the clutch on the engine or the jackshaft
or would it not matter?

on engine cause it doesnt really mater and its easier. unless the engine has a weird size shaft or idles too high

Not really, but engine would overall be a better choice IMO.

If you put it on the shaft than you'd have a bit of chain that's turning all the time the engine's running, which could be worse as far as safety's concerned and you'd have a bit of chain that would wear out faster. Would be unique though. You could also over or under drive your clutch with different size sprockets if you want a higher or lower stall speed.

Could be really useful to get to motor further in a power band before the clutch locked up to get harder launches or maybe even burn some rubber. Would be harder on the clutch though because there are more opportunities for it to slip.

If you want to be doing that kind of high rpm engagment its best to use a CVT tranny with ajustable rollars, ramps etc.

PS my drag car engages at 5300 RPM with around 50 HP and doesnt slip a thing
