If your ring's are so loose water can get by them with the engine off you have some serious leak down!

ive had water and gas leak into the crankcase of a brand new engine before when it wasnt running it slooowwwlllyyy trickles down threw i thought it was the rings before but this engine hadnt been ran for more than 3 hours in all

Yeah, True. Although I have seen some PRETTY bad engines with compression at about 55 PSI and they ran. And in a brand new engine the ring's havent seated yet. But still even not seated they shouldnt allow water through.

well when you think about it there is a small teny tiny gap were the rings dont touch themselves (im prob explaining wrong) that water/gas can leak threw it is possible it just doesnt happen all the time that and ive only seen it happen in down shaft engines not side shaft

The gap you are talking about is called ring end gap. And gap should not exceed 0.004". Whenever a engine uses more than one compression ring the ring end's are never lined up. For example one ring end goes at 12 o clock and the other may be at 5-8 o clock.

You're talking about ring end gap. If it were excessive, I could see how leakage might occur.
Polcat1p explained that engine was running when water was discovered. Water simply cannot pump it's way into crankcase after going through combustion cycle.
Scenario would be different if water cooled.

I know there was water in the carb, because when it took it off there was ice crystals in the bowl. It was 10 degrees in my shed. I did take it apart and clean it good, but know luck. It will run with starting fluid, but not on its own. The gas line is not blocked

thats how my carb is now. I did some mods like remove gov, rejet, pipe, and filter. When i have my choke off she runs like a normal 390, but when the choke is on she is real fast, and can smoke my buddys 390(same manco cart). with the choke on she idles high, and creeps forward which i dont like. Is there a way to solve that/
thanks

Engine runs better with choke on? And you believe this to be acceptable?
It isn't. Sounds like a jetting problem.

Hey!:mad2: Sorry my mom has short hair. You have something in common with my sister's................Need a hair-cut. And plus I didnt mean it that way about the mom thing lol. Just saying it's his motor and if he want's to run it with the choke on then he belive's it's acceptable.
