In this case, more CCs = more torque. That's the simple answer. Now, engage your brain coz here comes the technical one:

The simple formula for horsepower is RPM x torque = hp. There are a few numbers involved but I won't overload you with them, I'll leave that to chez

Now, since both of these engines are governed @3600rpm the difference is in the torque rating.

I can hear you asking from here: What's torque? In the simplest form, it's turning effort or the amount of force the engine produces to turn the crankshaft. That all translates to maximum rpm being reached in a shorter time or quicker acceleration.

Ok that's what I was thinking and I knew what torque was, just did not know rpm x torque = HP. I just need to find some higher rpm motor. So can someone atleast give me a link to a good motor that will be able to reach 60? Or tell me how many rpm's I should be looking for. If 3600 is doing 30-35mph then would I want a 7000rpm to go 60mph?

Oh and if chez sees this throw me some numbers in with that formula.

In all seriousness, for what you want to do, I think you're best off with a motorbike engine. Did you read the thread I showed you?

The thread was like 100 pages I thought so no, but I will go back and read it. I don't care if it is a manco or a low to the ground racing style kart or what kind of engine is on it, as long as it runs, gives me good acceleration, and top speed.

In a direct comparison with all other things equal, larger displacement equals higher horsepower and torque.

For a 60mph + kart you are going to need to do a lot of research. You should be looking on racing forums, at local tracks, contacting companies, etc. You basically want to use all the same angles, dimensions, and materials as a specific race kart. Once you did that you would end up with something that handles well, probably not as good as a professional kart, but much better than a standard yard kart.

If 60mph is your target speed you can go with a not so modified shifter engine (maybe a 2 stroke 70-80cc a dirtbike engine), or you can go with a highly modified industrial engine.

At 60mph,you better be darn sure to get the steering geometry worked out. My kart gets scary at 40mph on flat pavement. I can't imagine 20 more mph. Whatever you do, make sure your kart is built to high standards.

Ok so can I make a good accelerating 40mph double seated manco? Suspension would be nice, but if not I will still be happy. So are there any plans for that kind of build and what kind of motor should I be looking at. When I say acceleration I want to sit in one spot push pedal to the medal and spin be able to spin the tires a couple of times because drifting is cool.

I wanted 60mph so I could fly down this one road I live off of, not so I could do 60 through my bumpy feild. The road I wanted to have 60mph is basically a straight stretch of road put right in the middle of a huge farm feild.

Just throwing in my 2 cents here, but I think you may find it more beneficial if you build a simple, strong frame/kart, then put some money into upgrading an industrial engine and a good clutch or torque converter. Building up an engine will A)Teach you A LOT about small engines and mechanics, and B)Get you close to the speeds you want.

What is a good Briggs and Stratton motor that is inbetween the predator 212cc 6.5hp and the 346cc 11hp? Or close to one of those. When I looked on there website I went to the racing engines and it does not seem to tell me the HP or cc but I don't know if I was looking at the right thing, if there is a page where all the go kart engines are then just please post a link.
