im pretty much building this kart except im using a cr80 engine instead of the 125 kx. if you want a shifter kart thats fairly good, id look around for a rolling frame with almost everything you need (hub, steering components, etc) and find a used dirtbike engine like a lifan or a chinese brand since they are cheap and fabricate it onto that.

Well I might buy one of my dads friends be up junk go kart and restore it. We will see tomorrow night but do you guys know where to get the parts for the 212cc predator engine?

What is a good Briggs and Stratton motor that is inbetween the predator 212cc 6.5hp and the 346cc 11hp? Or close to one of those. When I looked on there website I went to the racing engines and it does not seem to tell me the HP or cc but I don't know if I was looking at the right thing, if there is a page where all the go kart engines are then just please post a link.

For $100 you can replace the whole engine, why bother with parts? B & S have an 8hp which (I think) is about 250cc. Honda also do a gx370 (9hp IIRC), among others

Well if you plug in the listed max torque and Rpm's into the formula for hp, you get about 5.5hp. The equation is as follows: (torque*rpm's)/5252=hp, so (8*3600)/5252=5.5hp

ok. Most industrial engines spin at 3500 rpms. So that 8hp briggs and stratton is going to spin at 3500 rpms stock. If modified it could spin more rpms, but stock thats all its gonna do. That engine should be spinning somewhere around 6000 rpms when its all done up and right, and it should have around 7 or 8hp. How much harder and how much more time would it be to put gears in?

it requires alot of skill on a shaper or a mill custom cut each gear
and probs 3 weeks of work

or u could use a multi belt tensioner setup but that hasnt been done proberly yet

or buy a gear box from harley daverson or some other bike maker that uses a seperate box but thatll set u back a few grand

a bike engine is easy to install and fairly cheap

bike engine comes with usually 4 - 6 gears depending on the bike. you can get a lifan or some chinese 125cc dirtbike for like 200-500 bucks, and you would have practically all your parts concerning your engine on there. only thing to do would be to fab mounts for the engine, and setup a shift lever and clutch which isnt hard.
