I think you can guess where the name came from.

This is a Baja Motorsports Dune 6.5 that bought for $60 without an engine or seat. I swapped the dirt tires to slicks, but I'll be going to sawtooth tires soon due not being able to get up my slick hills.

I still have a lot of final touches to do but it runs. I temporarily have 50 amp blade fuses on the line it pops them easily. That said, I haven't gotten a chance to give it the full beans yet but it will be good for 30mph with the 10:53 gearing I currently have.

I also plan on installing a hydraulic hand brake from a bike, just need to find the right one.

Setup

72v 3kw motor
100 amp controller (continuous amps)
18s lithium cells from a Ford plugin hybrid


Stock Razor Dune Buggy is there for size comparison. This kart is much more comfy to fit in.

since a clear NO to bicycle brakes!!

get a kart brake instead.. a cheap mechanical caliper is far more reliable
on a kart than any -doesn't matter how expensive- hydraulic bike disc setup.

if you want hydraulic, go hydraulic (still kart caliper)
if you want a hand lever instead of a pedal, get a motorbike brake lever.

if you meant motor-bike, no worries.. move on ;)

Oh that batpack needs a cap quite badly, I expect that to be seen soon :D

You may need a "more thermally protected" coupler for your motor phase wires
...these wires can get really, really hot :smiley_omg:

Also, maybe post more info on that batt pack :thumbsup:

Bike = motor bike.

Race kart is up next. I needed something to ride with the kids first and the Razor Dune I built up was just too small.

The front bumper and rear motor mount are just fine considering those parts are factory stock

Here's a video of a factory gasser for reference. Doubt my system is going to over-stress the chassis.

I'll check on the HDPE.

Update

I've upped the battery to 20s. Top speed with the 72v motor is about 30mph on flats. Drops with the battery.

I'm going to put my big motor on here but decided to try a small 60v motor before I do that.

60v at 80v is pretty fun. Didn't notice much torque loss and the top speed went up to 34mph on flats.

I love this little kart frame, its no race kart but it handles well enough. Handle controls are a dream.

Oh yeah, both motors pull over 100 battery amps.

I was referring to the currently installed brakes you have presently in the #2 and #3 pics shown above...
