Take the new one back to the store, throw a FIT and tell them it did not work. Get your money back. Then reinstall the old one.

I just changed my water heater 2 months ago. The tank was rusted out. So onto Craigs list. I found a guy (Remember Im in Ca) who had Gone "SOLAR". So he sold me his 2 year old propane 50 gal heater for 200 bucks. The thing still has 6 years on its warranty. Brought it home and 30 mins later had the old one out and the new one in.
Bwwahahaha.

Yeah.....kinda what I expected without the 40 year old plumbing changes.

at least the foundation didnt shift yet because you caught it early.

Naw....No need to obsess on a 20+ year old 30 gal. water heater.....the point is....while not a totally useless or unnecessary swap...how customer interference can cause problems...not only for the servicemen, but the customer as well.....

Heck...Grant, after 50+ years.....I'm not sure WHAT it takes to "shift" a foundation....(they're pretty settled :lolgoku:)

Yep We actually went through those issues 12 years ago. Updated everything and installed braided stainless thread on pipes back then. Which made this one so easy to change. I was just poking my finger in your eye for fun!

Oh...no...that wasn't it at all.....

Had flex lines...but the old heater was only 45" tall...and the stub outs had to be raised for the 61" tall replacement....the real issue is the 50-60 year old galvanized pipe under the house....which they paid a plumber to repair less than 6 months ago....it's really time for a total replacement with Pex.

Pex. I am not to sure about that stuff. Other than cost and ease of install, Copper piping has to be far superior. I have seen Rats chew through PVC pipe to get to AC condendsate water. Pex is much softer than PVC. and when a rat decides he is thirsty now you have a pressurized water pipe leaking. In my experience I have rental house built new in 2002, Last year it developed a water leak at the main where the PEX attached to the Copper supply.

Back east where houses are 150 to 200 years old those are real houses. This crap we build today with plastic just aint gonna hold up like that. 30 40 50 years Max.

.

Maybe....maybe not. I'm personally pretty impressed by Pex....(maybe because I don't have any????.....anyone need a refresher course via DIY stickers? :lolgoku::backtotopic:)

Don't know about back "East".... but around here..150-200 year old houses didn't have copper pipe...now, copper may have better rat resistance, but burst protection against freezing, goes: galv, Pex, copper.....and Pex doesn't rust....

Doug, we don't need to see your body parts again, please.

Copper is not used here anymore at all. It gets stolen by people who take it to scrap dealers. You wake up one morning and all your copper pipes and taps are going and the water is just putting out.

Phone lines are also stolen for copper

Yes we put our pipes in the freezer to keep them fresher longer. They last much longer that way and do not release toxins.

My old house had a cemetary across the street. Was on the porch one night around 2am, and saw some flashlights, looked closer and people were jumping the fench...and started pulling playes off tombstones! Needless to say a quick call to the cops and that place was swarmed by officers, 5 arrested and a nice reward in my pocket. Seems they had hit 5 other cemetaries in the last week.

Some people, I swear.

As the old saying goes, "If it was easy, everyone else would be doing it..."

:surrender: :surrender: Yuck. That's about the politest way to sum up the last week and a half.

We've got a new project finally leaving the drawing board at work, and as the only toolmaker in residents, I've been catching a lot of the last minute "WTF!!!!!!" stuff related to the project, including all the plug's for where the sand core's had to be supported in the mold.

In this case, it's a photo of the as machined rudder for a 110' vessel (one of two req'ed), and a couple of pic's of all the core holes after I fit and Tig welded all the plugs.

Tig welded, AC, high frequency set for continuous, 350~400 amps. And while I'm not done with this one, I won't have it back until polishing is done with it.

And it must be a sign of how mentally tired I am that the second photo that I uploaded that I accidentally selected a photo of one of the propeller's for the project being boxed up for shipping by one of my coworkers... Ah well....

I may have finally figured out what's wrong with the DR350 I got... well, there were lots of things wrong with it. But I think this is the one that was stumping me!

For the bajillionth time I was spraying water around the intake boot looking for a vacuum leak, when the engine randomly died as par for the course, but I felt a little puff of air on my hand when it did! I repeatedly did it, and it felt like there was a puff of air coming from the left carb boot bolt whenever it died. Spraying at it while running yielded no results though.

So I pulled the thing off and checked the o-ring... it was good. Then I noticed a teeny tiny delamination on the intake side. I started flexing the boot around, and a little gap opened up around the left bolt hole too. So I'm thinking the reason that it only died when hot was that the rubber expanded more than the metal/plastic that it's formed around, and opened up a little gap!

Still no idea why spraying it wasn't doing anything, but that puff of air was somewhere air has no business puffing so it's definitely a leak. Now I've just gotta wait like a week and a half for shipping being Thanksgiving weekend and all.
