A somewhat yearly fishing trip up in Canada with a few cousins and uncles there is an obligatory can of oysters passed around... I have yet to get up the nerve to try them...

...they look an aweful lot like slimy boogers... :ack2:

Yuck. Might as well slurp loogies.

Spent most of my day doing spring cleaning around the yard. Burning leaves and cleaning up the garden and flower beds. Some light tree pruning.

Some of my bulbs are just about to flower. It's been in the low 70s past couple days. Beautiful Southwest spring.

The fish are jumping.

And we're not talking sissy "hold your nose and swallow".....I chew them babies to savor the flavor!!!! The only problem is ....those dadgum things are EXPENSIVE!

If I was rich, I'd probably eat a quart a day. Besides, the women like men who eat oysters!

You guys are crazy for oysters. Just never order Rocky Mountain oysters, unless you really want to or into that kind of food.

We have some good friends that have a ranch with quite a few cattle. Every year we brand the calves in May, and the Rocky Mountain oysters from the bull calves are the best. I love them. They probably wouldn't be good raw like ocean oysters are though...

I'm with ya bro! One year, for my birthday, I decided to go to an oyster bar and eat as many oysters as possible. I wasn't going to let cost stop me.

After 4 or 5 dozen, the logical side of my brain took over, and I started calculating the cost.... and I quit. I could have went on.

Let me give you a little tip: if you haven't done it yet, get some snails. I fudged forever trying them. I mean, I've eaten EVERYTHING except bugs!!! And possum.

Really, I've eaten rattlesnake, nutria, coon, of course squirrel, rabbit, and rats......

(JK....I've never eaten rats... Well...maybe not, I DO eat Chinese food AND McDonald's!) I also eat hot dogs, so I have at least eaten their poop and hair.

I've also eaten turtle and armadillo. Alligator gar and mud hen. Carp.Cactus.Freshwater eel....( there's one for ya....) it's like alligator, every bite has a different flavor!

Something really different...grow sweet potatoes and eat the vines! Pretty good. I'm just about at the point in my life to try fried grasshopper, but I don't have the teeth.

Anyway, despite being an acceptable French delicacy, snails just seemed a little TOO GROSS for me.However, they are delicious and, I wish I had tried them sooner.

And....one other thing JERIS OYSTERS!!!! They are the best. And just in case: Texas gulf brown....BROWN, ( did I mention BROWN ? ) shrimp.

Of course, blue crab...( pain to clean , but SOOOO

tasty!)

Anyway, give those snails a try (in garlic butter, of course!) You won't be disappointed.

I do like snails. I've only had them once and they were really really good.

I just got back from Rockport last weekend. Almost bought a sack of oysters. At the restaurant you'll pay 15 / dozen. But you can get a whole sack for something like 50 bucks. That's something like 30 or 40 pounds. We bought one last year and 10 or more people ate all they could, but we still couldn't finish the sack. So good.

LOL and speaking of bugs..... I just got back from Mexico last month, and for Christmas, they are in to Chapulines. (fried grasshopper) I ate a few, they weren't great but weren't terrible. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapulines

I brought back some. I can mail you a few! ;)

I've had chocolate covered grasshoppers. Crunchy with a creme center. The chocolate helps.

Had ants also. Just crunchy. Didn't really taste.

I think it's a consistency thing.

Just can't do the snotty.

From what I gather, the best oysters are sent into the mainland, kinda like how some of the very best cuts of beef are reserved for restaurants.

Some of the best oysters I ever had were in Colorado at a place called Jax, who flies them in daily from all over the world.
I've had them up and down both coasts. Some places take great care and pride in the serving of bivalves, others, not near so much.
I've seen them so fresh and full, that they fill the whole shell, and you wonder how they even fit in there.
Other places stoop so low as to reuse the shells, and fill them with the nasty jarred variety.

I've also had them served so old, that it just looked like a booger in the bottom of a shell.

If they're good and fresh, they're awesome! A good shucker can tell a bad one easily, and if you ever get one in your dozen, at least for me, it's game over.

I once went to a place outside of Boston. I was hankering for the oysters, and so was she. They had a special going and she ordered 12 dozen. I think she found my limit.

Oh my god! Yes I eat them too, but they aren't as easy to find as they used to be. Apparently, they chemically castrate them now. Yummy! Who wouldn't want beef treated with chemicals that make your nuts fall off.

There used to be a restaurant that served lamb fries. Those are REALLY awesome.

But yeah, it would take a pretty sick individual to eat those raw.

Boss took us to Bdubs today while we figure out what to do with our snow plow edge. Moron that bent it in a press, didn't bend it far enough so it's catching on a bolt head while it folds in.

Curing hiccups.

I got the hiccups a little while ago. I don't get them very often, ( maybe once every 10-20 years.)

Anyway, here's a cure, and it worked for me: Just think: " I'm not gonna hiccup." over and over for 5- 10 minutes.

Sounds really silly and too easy , right?

Well, think about this: hiccups are an automatic body response. So is breathing. It happens without you thinking about it. But you can overcome that automatic action by simply using your conscious mind, right? Hold your breath?

I did one thing to reinforce this as well....pinched that little web between my thumb and forefinger. You can actually relieve headaches that way.

This may not work everytime, but it does work.

May have to try that if I remember to. Could be worse, could have them for 40 years then die 2 weeks later after you stop having them.
