Maybe but if no on had a gun there's no issue

My friend still has a head and he spend a whole 4 hrs in the shops yesterday

The right to have a gun sure made a great place didn't it

I can repeat myself again but u know it by now

U fear for your safety
I never think of it
It's never at risk

i have the choice to own i gun. However i have to prove i am worthy of owning a gun before i can buy one. Similar to a drivers licence. A privilage as opposed to a right.

freedoms a state of mind. You are obviously afraid and feel the need to arm yourself to feel safe. thats not freedom

Keeping yourself safe and alive from a knife man is not free? I find it hard to think you have zero crime.

I choose to stay alive. Not fall victom to joe blow that passed your gun laws and then went wacko on me for whatever reason. But your laws are so tight this never happens right? Or not to you anyway right? After all he past the gun test.

Freedom is to have a choice. To make your own decisions.

Questions? What are your self defense laws? Can you kill a man if your life is in danger?

Thats a great life man. congrats

I would love to live with zero chance of any crime. I see people beat to death all the time on the news. Or the jelous ex husband that kills the new boy friend. Most are not with any guns at all.

Are your truly not at risk?

I am not to pigheaded to understand what you guys are saying. I do see the point. But in my life to own a gun is a very smart choice IMO. Tonight I know my family has a fighting chance to stay alive. I am not the it cannot happen to me type.

about 7 years ago a dumbass was running from the police. A big car chase that ended on my block. The Guy evaded police for a bit on foot. During that time he kicked my back door wide open.

I heard the police cars so I was already out of bed and with pistal in it holtser. (yes in under wear LOL) Amagine sirons all over your block?

When to back door crashed open I turn around and was about 10 feet from him. I started to draw my weapon and he ran off. He was cought a few houses down before he could get into another house. I did not chase him I shut the door put my family in the closet and called the cops. Later I found out he was armed and ditched his gun after he left my house but before he was caught. I never saw his gun. He was wanted and running after he beat his wife or girlfriend really bad. Near death beating. The guy had that scary as hell look of desperation. Almost like he was going to ask for help. Like a wounded dog if you will.

I am 42 years old and it's the only time I ever needed a gun for any reason besides hunting. I live in magor US city most my adult life.

Now if those Zombies come what are you going to do? Hehehehe

That's not good Ay
That's what I'm saying if they changed the laws Tommoro it would never work and be dangerous

But we have a completely differant culture that doesn't require guns

If the zombies come now I'm screwed with just a hockey ( feild) stick and a range of knifes

But if I made it home the they would be fighting a 12 gauge and a. 303 rifle

I just brushed it off as crazy. But you keep hearing and hearing stuff.

Where and how is this zombie talk comming from? The night time radio guy's/nuts are going nuts on the topic here in the states. even main stream now.

I hear stuff like Flew shots to Abama to Bio warfare. LOL

free will
getting hit by a tsunami u will live or die but keep your rights

get bitten by a zombi and u live but u are forced to conduct horrible things and u have no control over any of it

it is what scares people the most is a zombi attack

also all this 2012 bull crap end of the world makes people think of it

me and a freind spent a long bus trip working out how to best defend our town agaist a chinese attack
we had everything worked like sinking ships in the harbour (we have the only deep water port for a long while)
to blowing bridges and so on

that was after that tomoro when the war began movie

Consider difference in cultures we all live in very different parts of the world. Some people are used to certain rights and don't feel the need for more because they're content with them...Bighead your saying that isn't truly being free if you cant have a permit, that is true in your culture but every culture has it's own set of traditional guidelines that they are so used to. In the US(not sure about the laws in Canada) your supposed to atleast wear a shirt, shorts, and shoes in public, right? now in certain other parts of the world those laws may not be enforced or in place. Would it seem like our freedoms are taken away in their eyes? YES but to US it wouldnt because we are used to those laws...Get what im trying to say?

Just today a man open fire at a shopping mall in Toronto. Killing 7 people just shopping. He is still at large. Just another reason I choose to arm my family.

Actually, it's 7 injured, 1 dead. Very sobering. Although Toronto has some "bad" areas, this was not a bad area, and it's usually just some crackhead in an alley taking potshots at another crackhead.

Here's the bigger problem-

If EVERYONE had guns, can you just imagine the crossfire in the Eaton's Centre (the massive mall where this happened)?
I assure you, it would have been a lot worse. I have mixed feelings about "the right to bear arms". To defend your homestead, sure. Running aroung in public, I don't think so. Woulda been way uglier.

Landuse, Are you able to defend your family and home with guns from this high crime rate? What are your carry gun laws? And home protection gun laws? Self Defense laws? are guns abundent like it the USA?

Also what do they do to you if you break the gun laws? And what do you think the crime problem is?

Sorry for all the questions. I just think about the laws all the time for I carry. Now days in the USA you better know when and when you cannot use a gun. Each case is different as well. There lots a gun owner needs to know and learn before he uses a gun for self defence. Just from some of the post in this thread on other country gun laws has me thinking good and bad on gun views. I would love to hear your laws if you do not mind?

Last month or so a local guy got 30 day in jail for shooting a pit bull that was going to attack him. Kids were near by so he got some kind of charge. I will see if I can find it.

Found it: This just goes to show you can go to jail from saving your life from a deadly dog in the street in front of your own home. Each case is different so there is so much to learn and factor in. There is more to the story but I cannot find the main page for some reason. There was lots of fuss over this case. They judge said some crazy stuff that pissed off the pro gun people.

This is what the judge said that pro gun people and I do not agree with. Cases like this can go bad fast. But at the same time laws are laws and you must know them. If he would have killed the dog in his yard and not at the mail box they could not have charged him.

"I'm shocked," Norby said. "No one goes out with a full clip (in a gun) to garden unless they intend to use it."

You got a killer dog next door and you cannot carry gun on your own land? How many times have you heard of folks getting attacked checking the mail? This guy lives in a meth/crack area as well. As an american what this judge said was about as un american as you can get IMO. The charge I can argue both ways. But this coment was just wrong under the american rights we have.

If I remember right 65% of the worlds guns are in the USA. I would be willing to bet that 50% of the homes on my block are armed. That 50% does not day to day carry them. But have guns to protect home sted and sport hunting.

This is what they judge said that people and I do not agree with. Cases like this can go bad fast if you have liberal judge. But at the same time laws are laws and you must know them.

Bighead, we can own guns here, and we can carry guns if you have the right permit. The problem here is that they have really cracked down on who can get a gun licence, and what you have to do to get one. It is very difficult now. Generally you are declined a licence. If you are a hunter, it is a bit easier.

If you do own a gun, by law you need to have a gun safe in your house where the gun needs to be. If it is just lying around and the cops show up, you are in big trouble. This, in my mind, defeats the purpose. What if a guy breaks in. Are you going to ask him just to wait for a minute while you get your safe keys, open the safe, and then shoot him? Not going to happen.

The problem here in SA, is that there are so many illegal guns in the country that it makes no difference that getting a licence is so hard. For every person who has a licence, there are 10 that own an illegal one. The cops are also terrible at any sort of policing. There are so many guns around that anyone can get one illegally if you know how.

Another problem here in SA, is the trend towards violent crime, not just ordinary crime. A case in point would be a typical car hijacking. They lie in wait for you near your driveway, and when you pull up they jump out, order you out the car, shoot you, and then take your car. They could just have taken your car, but they shoot for no reason. Or they break into your house and shoot you and then rob you. They could just as easily have tied you up and left you. They might even rape your wife and daughters while they are about it.

I personally do not own a gun, and never will. I would be blood guilty if ever I had to take someones life. I try protect myself through having a dog, a big fence round the property, a house alarm, and good locks on the doors. Unfortunately, no matter what you have, if the burgler is determined enough they are going to get in.

If you break the gun laws, the cops can put you away for a while, but generally they don't. The government has had a few "amnesty" periods where you could give in all your illegal guns to the cops, no questions asked. A lot of guns were handed in, but personally I think they were more the sports type rifles that have been handed down from father to son, and for which you probably wouldn't get a licence for anyway. I think all the handguns that real criminals use are still being used.

One thing that gets to me here, is that if a guy breaks into your house, you both shoot each other and get wounded. The criminal will be sent to a top class hospital and get the best care, while you have to pay your own way if you can. If you don't have medical insurance, you are going to go to the worst hospital, and get the worst care, while the criminal goes to the best hospital and pays for nothing. You then also have to prove that you shot the guy in self defence!! The dude is in your house!!!Crazy

I think if that case about the dog being shot happened here, everything would have been fine. As long as your gun had been licenced and was not illegal, you would be fine

The crime here is bad, and it is violent crime, but I still love living here. Each country has their own problems, and if I move I will just be trading one set of problems (that I know) for another set.

No problem

I look at other countries, and I always see houses with no fence or wall. They are open to the street. You don't get that here. Each house usually has a wall or a fence that goes round the property. In some cases, people might even put barbed wire along the top of the fence, or in lots of cases, have an electric fence. It is just normal here. You will have an intercom at the gate that you can press to speak to someone inside.

If you look at the pic below, you can see one house that has an electrified fence, and on the other side of the road you can see a driveway with a intercom

Its just normal here, but I suppose it looks a bit weird to some people

This pic was taken off google maps of one of the better suburbs here in Pietermaritzburg
