Honda Odyssey FL250 Rebuild

Time to start Ody number two. This one will be basicaly all stock. Going to Por15 black. Should be pretty easy for not really moding much.

The last owner did a hack job on the roll bar. I got to fix all that. Also replacing the top roll bar section. It is bent up pretty bad. Best part is no rust on the machine. Lots of dirt but nice shinny paint under it. I like how low Honda mounted the engine. Great setup.

Here is what I am working with. The Ody does run but leaking at the seals. I got a rebuilt fl250 engine with an Goki electric start. As I start this build. I have $300 into the Ody. And $100 into the new engine. So $400 so far. I hope to have $600 into the build when done. Maybe $750 if I have to buy new fenders. That puts me in the green if I sale it.

I had to fix the last owners hack job on the roll bar hoop. Honda made the hoop and rear engine basket a pain to remove. To fix the hack job. And to make removal on the engine basket I added some flanges. No I can unblot and slide out. Before you had to fight these clamps and pull the roll bar out. It is a big pain and is the reason the hack job was done in the first place. I just fixed that problem.

The roll bar on this Ody was trashed. Almost every weld was broke. Bent reall bad. Someone took a hard hit at one time. So hard it poped the bumper bolts off at the heads.

The driver has it wide open thru the whole thing.

Look at the above pics of my roll bar. Now amagine every weld being cracked. Mount bolts popped off at the heads. No frame damage that I can see. To smash that roll bar flat. And to bend that pipe someone took a hard hit. Hit so hard it pushed the bumper down about 3". And dug into the foot pan.

As you can see the front end and steering parts are super strong. Like little cars.

I will be adding side cages and nerf bars to this ody as well. In stock form the sides are just to open for me.

And with the head rest mounted. With tight belts the driver should be safe in the cage. Here is a pic with the head rest.

After looking how bad the roll bar was. I took another good look at the frame. It is bent and cracked in a few places. This frame is junk now. But I just happend to have a FL250 frame out back. I tried to give it away a few times. Happy camper that I still have it now.

A little bump but were back rolling again. Going to make a new bumper as well.

This Ody was hit hard. Or it fell off a truck.

They call it a reduction unit. No suspension unless you mod them. As you can see it is like a sleds set up.

Not sure, I am no expert between the two. So I cannot really answer that. I would amagine a dual a-arm would be better for sure.

the j- arms seem to be a better suspension ride on hard bumps. the way they are configured, the wheel assembly just hugs up to the body without knocking the front end around. you barely feel curbs when you come off of them as opposed to the A arms tilting the vehicle and jarring you. same action as a swing arm for the most part.

Well the roll bar was to far gone to repair right. I am making another bumper and front down bars for the roll bar. Also welded on a bumper grab bar.

Here is a pic of todays work. Got my bumper made up an mounted. I will add some more bars goinbg out to the tips. Got the original mounts off the old Ody bars. Need to get some pipe now. This Ody turning out more work than expected. I spent all day trying to salvage the cage. Not going to happen. Should have a whole new look tomorrow.
