home made hand/parking brake

hay all

do you guys think it would be worth fabricating a hand brake for my kart i gonna start building? i can make one for about $7 total. deos anyone ever use a hand/ parking brake?

useful yes but depends how big your karts gonna be

Would it be worth it? Yes and no. It'd be good for idling. If your kart tends to roll when it idles, then yes it might be. Or if you store your kart on an incline, also would be worth it. Other than that, I dont see much use for it.

I dont think the price is what hes worried about. Probably more time consuming/work than its actually worth. Just a thought, of course.

If you can rig one cheap and easy, do it. Especially if you don't have electric start. There are enough of us out there that can tell you funny, scary, and sometimes quite painful stories of pull-starting a kart, and having it take off unattended. There are a few ways to prevent this kind of mishap, and a parking brake is one very good way.

Chunk of 4x4 or $3 RV chock works fine.

But if you are comparing $7 to $3 I'd side with the simplicity of being able to come to a stop on a hill, throw the parking brake and step out without having to hold it still and drop a brick under the tires.

yes of cause it is easier but i dont see the need
exept for starting when it is just as easy to use a brick

1 i like making stuff
2 it would be some what useful
and 3 like redsox985 said it wouldd just be alot easyer

How did it turn out?

I have been toying with this idea. The kart Im building is a small two seater. The brake control is on the far left side of the cart. I have a couple of small kids that I will be teaching to drive and I thought an E brake might be nice. Reaching the brake would take a few seconds because of the steering shaft being in the way.
