I'm new to the site, very informative.
I was into go karts years ago and never stopped liking them, recently I bought a few for my Daughters, Wife and I to trail ride with.
Question is, I bought a yerf dog with suspesion and a 7 1/2 hp briggs.
Theres no torque convertor set up or jack shaft just a cent. clutch with chain to the axle sprocket. This thing has NO take off power, clutch slips bad, once its rolling its pretty quick but obviously needs work.
Saw some torque convertors like the Comet ones, but using that do I need a jackshaft also?
Thanx for your help.
Mike

if you buy a comet tq you don't need anything. they come ready to go. you may have to adjust your chain length though as the main drive sprocket will be in a different location.

Thank you very much! Looking at the pictures of them I couldn't see a gear for the chain BUT you answered that for me.

the Cart is a yard Dog 2 seater, prob. 400 lbs max load (people)
looking to go trail riding, hopefully some hills etc.
Which gear 10 or 12 should I get for the t.c?
Id love top end but NEED low end obviously.

hey MDMike, what model yerk dog? I have 3203's the red two seaters that came with 6.5 powersport? Ive replaced the engine with $129 harbor freight GX200 honda clone 6.5 hp, ya might wanna check harbor freight before buying the 8hp, plus there are plenty of hop up parts for them, stock honda parts work on them too!

Not quite sure the model 3208 & 3203 look alike (and it looks like them) When I bought it (used) it had a 7 1/4 hp on it with 10 tooth cent. clutch no torque convertor or jack shaft set up. 60 tooth on axle. NO take off power at all. I have a 8 hp already that runs real nice that Ill prob. put on with a convertor

Thanks a bunch

I ordered the Comet Torque Convertor setup, and went with the 10 tooth. Decided after trial fitting the 8 hp. to stick with the 7.25 hp due to height differances.
against my norm. I didnt overnight the parts -- Man Im kicking myself its going to be a long 5 days :mad2:
As soon as it comes in and I put it all together I'll post a follow up. Thanx again for everyones help!

:censored: What a difference!!! Well worth the money and I only moved it in the back yard!! I have to clean up the threads tomorrow, since I don't feel like going to my shop tonight to get a tap. Really feel like takin a burn down the street but that'd be stupid since the crank bolt isnt threaded in all the way (I used washers to take up the space to try it)
Thanx again for all the help. :wai:

Don't you wish they'd do the Clone Thing with the TAVs? They'd be affordable then!
Actually on my friend's kart (the red one in the videos I posted) it has what looks EXACTLY like a TAV, but NO Comet markings anywhere.... AND it bolts up normally to the clone motor (pulley to the rear of engine. I should research and find out its origin... That'd open up a few doors....

I cleaned up the threads (earlier) and just took it down the road, then up a few things that it wouldnt go over before, A world of difference!
I could BARELY make it over my landscape ties in the front yard before which was only single high, now I pulled up to a corner section that is 2 high, stopped when the rear wheel made contact, gave it some throttle and right over, no hestitation
Well worth the money - $179.99 @ Northern Tool
