HELP! Go kart wont go forward

so if there is a key in both the tc and drive sprocket we havent solved the problem

dont weld the sprocket if there is a key in there no reason.

at the begining i thought i may have to do with your belt.

when you spining the tire does the tire spin the sproket. and does it spin the jackshaft. if it does then there is somthing wrong with your belt or just your tc

alright problem solved I hope. We found that the sprocket was a reversed keyed sprocket and the key was sheered. We got a new sprocket a 10 tooth sprocket instead of a 9 and its a regular keyed sprocket so if this happens again it will be easy to fix! Will going from a 9 tooth sprocket to a 10 cause it to go much slower, are there any benefits to going up a tooth. I would have to custom order the 9t for 50 to 100$. They had the 10t for $22. Thanks guys!

Im going to put it all back together tomorrow or saturday and see if this fixed my problem

Ok I just looked at the end of the jackshaft without taking anyhting off and there is a square notch with nothing in it. Does this mean there is no key? Also how the hell do you get that nut off when the pulley spins with it haha?

I use an impact wrench

so why couldent you of bought a new key??? was the key like welded to the sprocket?

and if I wanted the same sprocket they were going to have to custom make it for me, said it would cost anywhere from $50 to $90. So I just went with the $22 10t sprocket haha

Problem fixed! put a hardened steel key in the drive sprocket so hopefully this wont happen again. Thanks again everyone!

good to hear you got everything running, and that there was no other serious damage.

moving from a 9t to a10t sprocket will slightly reduce torque/acceleration, and might slightly increase your top end speed (how much depend on many other factors, but its likely to be not too noticeable). if you do want a 9t sprocket let us know, we can probably get you one for less.
