HELP! Go kart wont go forward

ohhhh wait a min put a key all the way through. like from one end to the other like throught the sprocket and then through tourque converter. then all you would need is a long key

you dont need a grub screw. okay even if the sprocket dident have a keyw way. the key would sit against the sprocket run through the tourque converter than be stoped by the nut.

Ill have to look into that tomorrow. It would be the same size right (3/16")? Also off of this topic, I have a 265 cc 10hp engine. Not sure what the sprocket sizes are right now. I am wanting to get a new front sprocket. Should I go down or up a tooth for more climbing power?

lower teeth on the front sprocket = more acceleration/climbing power, lower top speed

higher teeth on the front sprocket= less acceleration/climbing power, higher top speed.


for the rear sprocket these are the opposite^^^^ assuming you have a 10T on there right now, its impossible to get a smaller one. you need to get a larger rear sprocket in order to get more climbing power.

think of it like this, the smaller gear has to turn many more times to get the larger one to turn once.

lets say you have a 5:1 ratio, the first gear has to turn 5 times to get the back one to turn once. of course the more times you turn the first gear to get the second to turn once, the lower the ratio and the more/ better acceleration you get.



hope this makes sense... i know you have already figured that the lower top speed you have the more acceleration, vice versa.

EDIT: 2 piece lock collar meaning theres 2 half circle pieces that bolt together, so you can put them on without taking your torque converter apart.

Cool thanks for explainging about the 2 piece lock collar. Ill go get a key and a lock collar tomorrow. Someone also said I needed some blue loctite?

The axle will probably use 1/4"x1/4" key while the jack shaft and engine will probably use 3/16"x1/4" key. Make sure you don't get over sized key stock as it will either cause your parts to be tough to get on/off and will need to be filed to fit right.

Ok well after I got to looking today the key that is under the tc is still there so that is not the problem, any other ideas as to what is causing this?
