check to see if there is a key in the jack shaft's keyway, it may have come out causing the driven to just spin on the shaft.

i very much suggest you do not rev up the engine or even turn it on as this is likely causing damage to the jack shaft and TC.

EDIT: darn, i got beat, that said, i'm surprised no one caught it before.

Key on the driven pulley? Could you please explain? Again I do not know anything about these things

when you look at the end of the jack shaft you should see a little rectangular slot on the shaft (called a keyway), you should also see a similar slot in the driven pulley. a piece of square metal called a key goes into both theses slots to transfer power from the driven pulley to the jack shaft.

u need to take off the driven pully and the sprocket off the jack shaft

if u look at the driven side on u should be able to see the slot where the key goes

EDIT
how much engine running have u done
before u remove the drivenjust try to tist it in a motion parralel to the jack shaft

if it rocks alot on the jack shaft then u may have done damage

but i suspect the hard faceing should have lasted out

do I need to take anything off to check if the key is still there?

you will likely have to remove a bolt from the end of the jack shaft so you can look at the slots in the jack shaft and try to see if

1. they are lined up

2. they have the key inside of them.

if the driven pulley spins the jack shaft, but the jack shaft does not spin the sprocket, you will likely need to remove the driven pulley which means partly removing the driver so you can look at the sprockets key way (again check for the two things i mentioned).

ok I will not turn it on anymore, thanks! Where would I get a new key?

your local hardware store should have some "square key stock", if not, you could try the lawn mower shop, or online. if you have a 5/8" or 3/4" DIA jack shaft you will need 3/16" square key stock.

also, if the key is indeed the problem, find out what caused the problem, and fix it.

Ok I just looked at the end of the jackshaft without taking anyhting off and there is a square notch with nothing in it. Does this mean there is no key? Also how the hell do you get that nut off when the pulley spins with it haha?
