Help, don't know what kind of battery to use

To my knowledge, there is NO alternator that you can use as a motor.

If you are dead lucky, you might be able to use an old automotive generator. These were used before alternators were invented. No telling if it would have enough power. I doubt it. Pretty hard to find, and not even worth pursuing IMHO.

No go on using an alternator for a motor. You can use a motor for a make shift generator though with no voltage regulation, ironically.

I found a 24 volt motor with 36 amps. Each battery is 6 volts and 12 amps. I have a circuit below. Will it work?IMG_0576[1].jpg ANother question, if I use a controller and its limit is 40 amps and motor's limit is 36 what will happen? Can you over amp a motor?

Overamping isn't possible. Voltage pushes, amperage is pulled.

I am really confused about amps. How does it effect speed, how long it lasts, etc...

You are comparing 2 different units of measure when relating amps to a motor and to a battery. One is a load and the other is the supply. Battery output is measured in amp/hours, not just amps. Motors draw amperage, so they are two different things. Amps don't regulate speed, nor do they effect how long it lasts.

What happens to a motor if you have less amps or more

Again, a motor is going to draw only the amperage it needs, you don't need to worry about over/under amping the motor. Amperage is current. You are probably thinking about voltage which is the supply, you can definitely over-volt and under-volt a load, both of which can burn up a load if it's excessive in either direction.

I'm trying to figure out what you are doing exactly. Why are you wanting to make a hybrid parallel/series circuit? Also, remember Amp/hour ratings are for a 20 hour period so trying to get the a/h to be the same as the amp rating of the motor doesn't make sense. Ideally, you would would want substantially more then 36ah worth of batteries to power a 36 amp motor.
