Garage mods for the buggy:

-I stalled ez tracks to joists in my garage. Four 5 foot sections. The pourpose is to have multiple rigging locations so I can hang my frame, swingarm, and various pieces for painting in the garage with the doors open. Its going to he a hastle to try to paint outside, so ill do it indoors with good airflow and climate control.

-I paid $50 for this seized up Jet 13R drill press. Japanese made. De-seized her, greased hrt up, now she purrs! I have a few brackets to maje, hence the purchase.

5 shackle brackets mounted. Probably20240119_001800.jpg overkill, but they look cool, are cheap, and will come in handy for painting, hauling, and pulling/being pulled. I like the one on the bumper, reminds me of O-line Football helmet face masks.20240119_001752.jpg20240119_001739.jpg

-Floppy brake pedal issue solved by welding a nut to the frame and attaching a spring to it and the pedal. Forward tension helps pedal to not flop backwards towards the driver.

-Prepping alternator area, I'll make 2 brackets for the alternator tomorrow.

-This alternator pulley is pretty slick, it sits right inside the drive cvt on the output shaft. That way it still charges at idle, as opposed to rigging up the alt pulley on a jackshaft or axle. From Vegascarts.com20240209_224057.jpg 20240210_001624.jpg20240210_001655.jpg20240210_001720.jpg

Alternator bracket installed. Happy with the end result! Through the learning process I have found that tin foil is fantastic when layed (3-4 layers) for sheilding weld splatter/heat. Old Levis are also great for general large areas.20240211_124615.jpg20240211_131510.jpg20240211_131638.jpg20240211_132847.jpg20240211_132902.jpg20240211_132914.jpg

Nice size alternator. What model? Internaly regulated? I'm looking at options for an upgrade. Nice work! Spring is on the way! Gitterdun!
Thanks, I just went with the cheapest option on Ebay. I think I was able to get it for about $70ish. It's 12c and 35 amps. I believe it is internally regulated. I haven't even looked up how to connect it all yet, but I am pretty sure its internally regulated. Thanks! I am actually going to finish it before summer. I am looking forward to the paint job, this thing should be pretty cool!

Here is a pic of the backside, and the 1 piece of paper it came with. I did put it in a vice and use my drill to double check that it actually works, and indeed it does.20240212_071911.jpg20240212_071436.jpg

Ok, last big push to try and hopefully get a Test ride in on Sunday or Monday. To do list:

-Tonight weld on the bracket for the second hydraulic brake, the hand brake line. Install Brake lines to Brake caliper.
-Weld on 2 brackets for the tow bar that will bolt up to the front bumper. This will be for a tow bar to tow small distances (with chain removed so its essentially in idle).

-Saturday, check all bolt/nuts, and tighten things down. Check all keyways for keys. Drain break-in oil and put new synth oil+filter in

A few notes from pushing it around: the second caliper was a good call. The single MCP caliper will stop it, but its a little slow. It reminds me of my old 650-ish pound Goldwing that I rode for years with 1 caliper.

It doesn't turn super easily on pavement due to the wide solid axle. It will turn, but you can tell its gripping. Exaclty the same feeling when having 4x4 lockers engaged on a truck. But it should be fine on soft ground.

Wish me luck....
