Dude, been there, done that...

The reason I ask again is because of that YouTube video of the cart with the sled engine with the centrifugal clutch http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UOylqSO_1C8
And then when I was looking online I found out about hillard extreme centrifugal clutchs
so I was wondering if it would work

That particular clutch may be "extreme duty" but, I'm still to see a Hillard clutch that can handle 40hp... & before you start on about "the engine is only 36hp, you need a clutch that can handle more hp than the engine will make...

Man reading this daily gives me a headache, but kinda entertaining.

I got it, build a wood kart for it then use rear sprockets from a bike so you have multi gears. Push type Lawnmower wheels and scrub brakes and your good to go.

If you look at these pictures one can see what is burned up on my kart in one day and it is not the clutch!
Notice the color of the clutch drum no discoloration of the drum from slipping.
This engine is rated in its stock form as 23hp @ 6000 rpm and I have done a little tweaking to it so it has a little more than that. With a little modification I am able to use this Comet 206169 clutch that is rated oh dear should I say 8hp on this engine and another one just like it on my 303 wankel engine it can be done I have done it and I am still doing it and I will continue doing it with the wankel engines. I have many hours on this set up but I modified them myself and tested the set up and it has worked. One takes a risk in experimenting with modifications and configurations and you must have some in depth knowledge about what you are doing or else it could cost you big time.
Rushking19 just go with the stock CVT set up your kart will have a wider range of performance and this would be the safest way for you to go.

:smiley_omg: that clutch is rated for 7 hp...... I see that it holds up well, but how long do they last on that kart pictured? And what chain are you using? As in brand name? To hold up to 30 hp play time is a great testament for the little old #35......

If we're going to go there....

I think this is the funniest post I've ever read on here......
@MLtoys, that would work if you use the gear set from a mountain bike cause those are designed for rough mountain riding...... (NO you can't use those either..... :lolgoku:)

Here's another potential starting point (not the propeller, the cart it's sitting on)...... The shop I'm working for has been around since 1905, and we've got a pretty eclectic mix of tools at our disposal. Simple things like this ol' cart could be 50 years old, yet you'll see it loaded with prop's to be machined, sitting in front of a CNC lathe that's only 8 months old.

The reason I took the photo is because this old gal likes to follow the terrain; the frame is so limber that it keeps all 4 wheels on the ground no matter how rough the floor. It's a good thing that it was at least partially designed to use gravity to help hold it together: without a load, it's handling can best be described as loose. The more you load it up though, the better it handles.

Combine the limber chassis with the 6" front and 16" rear cast iron wheels, I hear by nominate this as the wood tic special.

I have over 50 hrs on my 303 wankel with this set up and 36 hrs on my 295 wankel and they still worked fine with just a little hooking of the sprocket teeth and the clutch shoes are great!
I re arched the shoes so they have full contact with the clutch drum and the one on my 295 has spun close to 9000 rpm and the clutch drum has stayed at its original diameter.I use DID 35 chain and for lube I use a mixture of anti seize and graphite because the lake bed is so dusty and regular chain lube attracts the dust to the chain and it becomes like a lapping compound of sorts.
I am going to use my 295 on the kart that I am building for my wife so we will be putting more time on this set up and we will see how long the clutch will last and I will be running her kart from time to time along with my family members on the weekends and such.

:funnypost: I used to use a "wood tic" @ a place I used to work at like 22-23 years ago. I used it to unload chemicals from ships on the docks. It was , like, dangerous stuff I guess, cause it's the only thing we could not unload with the forklifts. They wanted this stuff done by hand, 60# buckets..... With a skull and crossbones on it...... LoL :surrender:

Yeah I already decided last night I was going to just use the stock CVT set up, because getting a centrifugal will be too much work and money and it would blow up sometime down the road
