Sneak peek at the Bullitt wheels. Kinda tricky adapting minibike wheels to live axle. Got the hubs done, just need to mill out some bushings. Hope to have them tired tomorrow. Right now, I'm tired.

Thanks!

Btw Doug, how does that "reading coat" you put on the primer work? I thought I caught what you meant but couldn't figure it by the pictures. I'm hoping to have the General primed and ready to hand off for paint by Friday.

Also picked out Bullitt's paint color. Amazon Green Metallic by Duplicolor (Autozone) hoping its different enough from Thug because I'm gonna end up with 2 green karts. 2 orange, 2 black, red, white and gold.

wasn't Bullitt "Dark Highland Green" ?

I don't know what color Thug will have, but maybe that's still different enough ;)

That's correct! But I went with the closest match, locally and readily available rattle can color.

I'm tired again. Sometimes there aren't enough hours. Was hoping to have them on the kart to finish the mock up but this is as far as I got.

Milled out bushings and pressed them in place of bearings on drive side of rears. Mounted hubs by way of coupler nuts and a Swiss cheese hub I picked up from Mfg Supply. I had to make it cheesier, wait, more Swiss to work. Mounts up nice and runs true!

Well now I can go and find out what Dennis is using. Thug is getting shot with a gun. I was going to use Rustoleum " Hunter Green" as is because this is his wife's kart and I thought it would make future touch ups easier. But I can custom mix if necessary and give him a can for touch ups. So they will be different enough to eliminate any confusion one way or another.

if so it's indeed close to highland green

but I don't think the difference to Amazon green is any bigger :(

Hunter is a bit on the blueish side of the palette, and that's basically all the difference there is...

I don't know, if it's the same amount to spend for Amazon or Highland.. I'd go for Highland (for obvious reasons ;))

Well, you'll do the right thing..

Oh, thanks for the wheel update (I almost said it...)
great, I loove those wheels...
I think I'm trying to get them too ;)

Yeah- I think the 2 may be too close for comfort. Dennis and I picked through swatches BEFORE I grabbed the can of Hunter Green. Bullit needs to match.
Thug can be any color as long as it's green.....

Did I just hear Henry Ford roll over in his grave???????

You're gonna kill me Doug, but...

I was cruising the Internet Movie Car Database trying to solve this double green conundrum...two orange karts don't bother me, in fact, I wrote it into a script ala The Dukes Meet Cale Yarboro, but I'm not that big a fan of green.

So, I notice that more often than not Rockford's heavies are blue. And sticking with the Ford LTD theme I landed on this one, used in more than one episode. What do you think? If you haven't cracked that paint yet I can swap it out. Let me know. I'm headed to FW later today I could swing by.

I'll bet that made the wife much more happy. I don't think she was really that happy with the green swatch we showed her. IIRC her exact words were: " Well, that's not too bad..."

Sometimes you have to read between the lines........Dennis told me in a text that his wife does like the color green.... ( not what she said when I was there..)...... I'm guessing that maybe it's when it comes out of his right rear pants pocket.......

LOL! I’m lucky…I got one that puts more in (and back) than she takes out! Now the kids? Different story

I bought that kart to eventually play John David’s. She liked it for the leg room but I never liked it just because it was so big and blocky and slow. So, I’ve always treated it that way and she always teases me about being mean to “her” go-kart. She does like green, it’s her favorite color, (she once ordered a brand new truck in Emerald Green) but she knew the shade I was going for on the heavy kart would be unnatractive.

Speaking of color shades, I guess I might be as color blind as I am tone deaf. I’m not really, I know when a note is wrong, I just don’t know which way or how far to go to make it right. The opposite is true with color shades. I know what I want, I just can’t find it.

When I wrote the Rockford script and came to the part where Jess is leaving the phone booth and we zoom to the heavy on his kart staking him out from across the street, I pictured a big, ugly, 70s green 4 door sedan…not a pretty green… the color of feces. So I described it as “fecal green.”
Now, fecal green doesn’t exactly show up on any color swatches and it’s hard for me to describe. Not pretty but pretty ugly, like, “why would anyone order a brand new car in THAT color?” But not John Deere Green either...not THAT ugly (sorry Doc.) So I’ve been delving into paint codes to find an example of exactly what I mean.

The Mustang II (Maverick?) below is fecal green to me, better known as Dark Yellow Green in Ford codes. It’s not the same as Dark Highland Green or the more readily available (to me) Amazon Green but it’s just too many karts on that end of the pallet for my taste. I’ve gotten a big laugh out of the fecal green bit but no one else seems to get it so I’m dropping it.

In my research, (I love sitting around watching the Rockford Files on Netflix because I’m mad I can’t get anything else done and calling it research) I find that more heavies drove blue sedans. My conundrum now it WHICH shade of blue says, “I’m not a happy, cheery blue go-kart rider but one who would tamper with Jess’s brakes, beat up his friend, chase him, ram his kart, try to run him off the trail, trash his shop AND hit him over the head.” I think the Buick below says all that.

Now, how do I get that shade of blue and adhere to my $21/kart paint budget? I’m not trying to be cheap here but I have to stick to a budget as I have a lot of other production costs to save for and the nickels and dimes are really starting to add up.
