I actually like a fairly heavy spring on the gas pedal. Makes it easier to feather the throttle on bumpy ground IMO. A floppy pedal is just all over the place when you (and your foot) are bouncing up and down.
I had a pretty weak one on my kart for a bit, it returned the pedal just fine but it didn’t feel good. I put a real heavy one on, now it feels way more solid on your foot and is very consistent and predictable.That’s a Manco/Fox type pedal.
Drill a small hole in the frame for one end of the spring and hook the other end to one of the holes in the pedal.
Doesn’t get any easier than that.
