420 Chain are you using? I think you need a bigger rear sprocket badly.just 2 more teeth on back sprocket you will be taking off fast and getting decent top speed. You need to put a floor panel down now dont you,and pedal for gas.Top build that tho bud.cant fault you in one way.top build top engine cant ask for more.

It's 40 chain. The clutch hardly slips at all and doesn't smoke. Once the clutch hits activating RPM, it grabs relatively quickly and goes. I'm satisfied with it. For $50, it's a good kart. Even for multiple times that amount, it would be a good kart.

Great Kart! Love the seat, got to be the most comfortable I've seen. Takes alot of inginuity to come up with something like this on your own. I am working on one of my own now just waiting on funds for a engine.

where are you, are you in uk.
Ive got a GX390 Engine for £160 and GX160 £100

Cup holder hahaha your joking arnt you?you doing long distance trips on your new clutch haha.

I'm dead serious! It would be a nice thing to have in the Summer! It gets pretty hot in South Carolina.

I also live right down the road from a gas station that has a Subway opening soon... So instead of using my gas guzzling Jeep, I can see myself making trips there with this kart a lot. The police out here are cool so I'm not worried about any fines.

@Rusty - Yeah, we definitely were not expecting it go to as fast as it did. If we had safety gear I would have opened it up all the way. If I open it up to around 4500 RPM, I have no doubt in my mind that I'll get it over 60 MPH. I've got a motocross helmet from back when I rode dirtbikes that we used when we got it home, and I'm going to build a roll bar+Seat harness.

Hey Gary I'm at work but I just got caught up, have you tried the little spot light yet, if so how'd it go? :cheers2:

Not quite, I had to help my mom install a hot water heater in the new place, so I haven't had a chance to do much. I'm about to go to santee to get some food, then I'll be back and I'll mess with it some.

When you use a bucket seat you feel a bit safer, i didnt have a seat belt on my kart.
You need floor panel and pedal for gas before you put a seat belt on this kart, like i said loose 2 teeth of rear sprocket and you will see it pull off qwick and go fast at top end.
Changing rear sprocket is cheaper than making front smaller, dont think you can get an 8 tooth centifugal cluth with 40 chain, can you??

No, I'm 110% broke now. No money to spend on a different sprocket or clutch. Plus I would have to go buy some chain, which isn't something I want to do. We also plan to use a thumb throttle, not gas pedal.

There's no meaning to "cheaper" when you're broke. lol

Do it in school for nothing the pedal,.got to be able to buy a rear sprocket between the 2 of you,if not now by this time next week.Just look on ebay now and watch some and see how much they go for.
Wish i lived over there near you because i would have put all money neded into this kart and let you build it then it would be mine and yours,i would buy 3 rear sprockets all different sizes depending on where its going to be driven
I got refused entry to usa because ive been done for growing weed.
Never been in trouble with police for anything else and they wont let me go new york,,sucks

When your throttle is on kart, make a video on a long road and get full power out of it and fly past camera,Cool video that will be

Hey Patrick, I just got home. Crap took a load of a lot longer than I thought it would. It's too late and too cold to do much with the kart at the moment...

@Honda - We already have the thumb throttle assembly. That's how we've decided to do it... Right now I'm not going through the trouble of getting a different sprocket, which would also mean getting another chain and resizing it. The kart runs, the kart drives, we're happy with how it drives. I'm leaving it at that for now. I'm going to get the thumb throttle finished, then we're done as far as the drive train goes. We've already gone through this, and we're keeping it as it is right now (besides the head lights, tail lights, paint, ect.)

I'm leaving it at that.

Yeah its cool dude. Maybe monday(since no school) we'll go pick up some paint. I hope to have the head lights done then too. Glad we got the kart running as good as it does, maybe tomorrow when we get home from the half day I'll strap the flip to the kart and take a 1st person point of view video. :wai:

That would be sweet man... I also have a route planned to be able to drive the kart to your house. lol I won't be doing it until it gets a bit warmer, but I've got a good route. Instead of taking a right from Bells, just take a left, then go down and turn onto Lauderdale, then turn onto acme street, then go down Adidas to your place.

That would probably work out just fine, and it would be a great way to really test the kart :cheers2: If we do put a roll cage on it, a bit of plexiglass to keep the wind out of our eyes wouldnt hurt lol.

DO NOT put on a seat belt unless you install a roll cage. Also, with that large of tires and that few teeth on the rear sprocket, you will smoke your clutch quickly. I would scrap together the money for a larger sprocket before you do anything else to it. I know it will require lengthening the chain, but just put in those remaining links you took out.

That's too much if you're asking me. That's what goggles are for (for use with the helmet, I have a pear from when I had dirtbikes and what not). Only thing I want to do to the frame now is make the roll bar, get some kind of seat belt system and everything else we've talked about. Remember we want to keep the weight down. The roll-bar is going to add a lot as it is.

Yeah but that would help a ****load in this cold. And as for the sprocket, for the last time the kart runs fine people, its not straining the clutch that hard at all. A new sprocket is out of the question for now. If our clutch burns up anytime soon, then ill invest in the sprocket, I appreciate everyones concerns but it fine for now.:wai:
