...This disaster though was a major blow to any future nuclear power plants. Next time build it away from a fault line.
Nah, Fukushima was built too close to the coast, in fact right on it, and stupidly.
The waves crashed in and destroyed the emergency generators that would have provided power to cool the reactors. It was a disaster waiting to happen and Tokyo Electric Power Company was found negligent in meeting basic safety requirements in "risk assessment, preparing for containing collateral damage, and developing evacuation plans."
Maybe if the generators were kept off the ground level or situated in an impervious structure the disaster could have been averted but it wasn't and the contamination has spread to the ocean and beyond. Thanks Japan.
