My son has been trying to build a go cart for a few years now and he has progressed to where he was bolting metal together much better than the wood 2x4 he start when he was 8 yrs old!
He had a good idea of what he wanted and has done a fair bit of research.
This is where I come in, I have been doing my own research and have helped refine his plans! (see pic) We decided to make this first Kart from 1x1" .100 wall sq tubeing to make it easyier for us! I will post pics of our plans and of materials we have so far and will try to keep you fellow hobbyist up to date on the progress.......Please feel free to give advice if you see something that could be better or dangerous!
:beta1: The wheels are not the actuall wheels we are going to use just what was handy to get the idea of what we are looking at!!!

is that a live axle on the back? and what kind of motor are you going to use? i would recommend a hf blue knock off honda with a torque converter. And what kind of tires are you going to use?

Yes i am going to run a live axil! also the motor i have is the Princess Auto 6.5hp honda clone, same as the one Tyler has modified... as far as tires go i have not made a decision yet and would like to have input on this, so coments are welcome! I have thought about 8" steel 4on4 with slicks from Princess auto.

well i do more off road then on road but iwent with16x8-7 in the front and 20x7-8 on the back i went this route mainly because of how cheap they are i payed 100 bucks for all four rims and all four tires shipped on ebay there basically 4 wheller tires for like smaller 4 whellers so there really cheap and come in really nice tread patterns

I don't know if you have the scrap in your garage or a welder but, I made something like this years ago to deal with golf cart tires and rims. Just a peice of 1/4" flat bar ground and hammered at the end so its smooth (no cutting the tire) bent 45, then bent back -45 to clear the other side of the rim. The base peice was bolted to my workbench with the 4 through-holes and the upright was a peice of 1 1/2 steel house pipe... Worked well for getting them on but, de-beading them was done with my pickup truck. If I find it in my shed or a picture of it I'll post it. Also vasaline helps too but harder to clean up...
