then use the sprocket you found til you get used to it. you should be ok at around 50-60ish with that size.

Just remember that every 1 tooth up on the front is equal to 2-3 sizes down on the rear.

Ok, so what size sprocket would i have to get to be at the 85-100+ mph range? And do they make different chains? Like whats the guidelines of buying a chain?

Btw, i got my gasket for the water pump cover. Going to put that badboy on tomorrow!

Id need a igher tooth count for the front to get higher top speed? And lower tooth count for acceleration?

So i got my eye on a 17t front sprocket. I already got the 14t one coming in the mail, so i sont think i need it, but if i can go faster with the 17t, ill take it!

Here's the thing, faster doesn't always mean better...

I can't tell if you posted the tooth count of the axle sprocket but, it appears to be in the realm of 40t so, for now, we'll go with that...

By using a 14t engine sprocket with the 40t axle sprocket, you end up with a ratio of 2.85:1
By using a 17t engine sprocket with the 40t axle sprocket, you end up with a ratio of 2.35:1
It may not seem like much but, that can mean the difference between going fast & not going at all...

See, if the low range gear is too steep, the kart won't move at all with the larger engine sprocket; my advice is hang on to the smaller sprocket...

Apart from that, with a higher final gear ratio, because it has to work harder, the engine may not reach it's power band &, therefore, top speed will actually be lower than with a lower ratio...

Its a 45t on the axle. Its the one that came on there. How did you calculate the ratio? Did you divide 14 into 40? What do i need to know when buying chain?i think i read you have to measure the distance between each tooth? Can you explain that bit?

---------- Post added at 02:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 AM ----------

Im now looking for a seat.. Whats a decent seat? Dont need any high end diamond engraved seat, but i dont want junk. I already found the mount i want to use! I need these 2 components before i can start figuring out how the shifter will sit... And pedals!

For a seat I suggest going into a kart shop. Honestly seats for racing karts come in all different shapes and sizes and trying to find one that you think would fit online isn't the easiest thing in the world. Just easier to go find one you're comfortable in at a kart shop.

What do i measure? Waist, leg?lol i will do a proper search

Your widest point in your hips and add a 1". How tall are you and how much you weigh I can tell you what size you need.

I'm 6' and 200lbs on a fat day and I needed the XL to XXL For reference.

That's correct. For more information, read this

What do i need to know when buying chain? i think i read you have to measure the distance between each tooth? Can you explain that bit?

Correct again; the distance between the tips of the teeth is the same as the centre to centre distance between the pins in the chain; it will be either 3/8" (which I doubt) 1/2" or 5/8"...

1/2" = 40 series (40/41, 420, 430, etc)
5/8" = 50 series (520, 530, etc)

The width of the sprocket may also be a factor...

Ok now when you say 40 or 50 series, and you have the numbers in the () what exactly are those numbers supposed to be? Does that link explain that? And what if the 2 sprockets dont have the same distance between the 2?

The numbers in the () are chain sizes...

If you have two sprockets of different sizes, you have a problem, one will need to be replaced; more than likely, the engine will have a 50 series sprocket & it will be easier to fit a matching sprocket to the axle than find a 40 series sprocket for the engine...

Have a look at this thread where the same question is being asked...

So out of the 2, would you say 5/8s is more commonly used?

Thanks for that link, really helped me understand the whole chain concept. I will measure tomorrow and report my findings.

Thatll cover the seats and pedals. I planon running the right side pedal as the gas, and the 2 left pedals will be a clutch and brake. Im going to have the gas and brake on the same mounting point, and run a bolt long enough to pass though each pedal. I know the master cylinder will have enough force to pull the pedal back to its resting position, but im figuring out a way for the gas and clutch pedals.. Clutch might be ok, but that throttle is easy to pull. Maybe some springs? I have an old throttle body rotor from a civic, fabricate something. The seat is a regular plastic seat rated for 120-170. I fit in a solid 150 lol. The 2 clevis connectors are for the shift linkage, amd the other is for there the hand lever will go. I will update with small stuff like chain measuring, but no pics until then.

Ouch. $55 in shipping. Gotta love BMI

Absolutely ridiculous lol, but majestic honda charges EXTREME shipping on top of a 6 dollar handling fee, and taxes!! Lol.

If you go to ace you can get springs for like a buck a piece, either for compression or extension. Get the length and the resistance you need

Perfect, i got one 5 mins up the road, probably get the 3 highest compression springs so i can feel the resistance between them
