Nate when did your engine throw its rod? I think that is a more realistic fear than the cast iron flywheel exploding, but that being said I'm still deathly afraid that thing will shoot a magnet into the back of my skull.

It was up around 7k that it let go. That was the second honda flywheel that I was spinning that high, and never had a problem with either, but I have a billet raceseng S1 on it now. When the rod came out it more or less just sounded like it had a handful of lug nuts in the crankcase as it was winding down, there were really no projectiles to speak of. It didn't even dent my 18 guage steel top plate.

So even that isn't anything worth being afraid of, awesome! It's been keeping me from really going wide open but eh, what the heck, an entire engine costs $100!
Beware, I had a rod go and it scared the heck out of me. Just did a bunch of backyard mods, out for first test run. Adrenaline pumping, could not believe that little motor was pulling that hard. Then all of a sudden BAM! I MEAN LOUD. Seconds after I coasted to a stop my son was looking for me. He was at least a half mile away, heard it go, and thought I crashed into something.
But at least for me all the carnage was contained in the case. Well except for about a 1 inch chunk of the case. Don't know where that went.
