Well i had this problem before, and posted a thread but thought i had solved it... apparently not.

So, i have a tecumseh 5.5 powersport on my kart, its not very old, maybe 3 years tops and has only been used for the last year, if even that. I recently cleaned the carb because it was not running right (very choppy at idle), after i cleaned it i took it for a test spin, it idled and ran good but when i hit a bump at full throttle it would cut out like it was getting starved of fuel, i then noticed i had the bowl on backwards and tried it again and it fixed the problem. Now its doing it again, when at full throttle on smooth ground, its fine, but as soon as i hit a bump it cuts out, sputters a little than accelerates again. I am almost positive this is not electrical, i disconnected the killswitch i wired, nothing, then i tried starting it and picking up the rear end of the kart and dropping it from about 3ft and it didnt even faze it. I assume its just a lean carb, but thats insainly lean, like extreme! I'm REALLY stumped on this one!

No, its an almost new engine...this is why i will never buy a tecumseh engine...EVER

I just took the carb apart again to do a really good cleaning and check the float AGAIN. I took it all apart, started blowing compressed air through all the holes and guess what? i blew the float needle seat right out of the carb, and now i cant find it...

Also, if anyone can tell me where to get the float needle seat, that would be good. I cant even find the model number on the engine, so it may be hard. I think i found a kit on ebay with the bolt, float, needle, needle seat, etc but its $15.

the float needle has a thin wire loop on the end opposite the pointed side. That wire loops around a tab on the float itself. See if it is there and attached correctly. The loop keeps the needle moving with the floats. It could be that the needle is bouncing around in there independently from the floats when you hit a bump, momentarily shutting off the fuel.

get creative dude take a carb off one of your other engines and make it work since by the way your talking about that engine doesnt seem worth spending money on it.

Its not, but i would like to resell it at some point, this engine is completely unmolested and in really good shape (besides being a tecumseh). I dont really have any other carbs that would work, and still allow me to keep the governor intact.

Got the kit for $4 from a lawnmower shop, but i put the needle seat in a little crooked, and when i let it sit for a while it leaks into the airfilter a bit. I also found out, that its been running really rich this whole time. The plug was deep black, i think it may be the airfilter, which is fairly dirty (paper element).

what type of trans u using? my tecumseh is having the same problem. i think it might have something to do with load on the engine, only reason i say that is that my chain was pretty loose last week when i was riding it and was having constant problems with cut out, unless it was perfectly level ground then no cut out problems. so i today i made my chain tighter and it improved my problem signifigantly. now it will only do the cutting out when i hit a decent bump and the chain is allowed to get slack. i figured it has to do with load because my chain actually fell off and i hadn't noticed but all of a sudden the engine was making the cut out sound(at full throttle) but permanently since the chain had fallen off and there was no load on the engine anymore

I doubt this is the issue, but do your engines have low-oil cutoff sensors?

Can you post some pics of the engine? Need to see what wires are comming out. On a clone, there is a yellow wire that needs to be disconnected.

Download a parts list for your engine here :
http://search.cartserver.com/search...msehPDF&maxhits=5&keywords=OHH55-69009&go=GO!

based on that, it looks like the LOS is on the bottom of the engine, look below the pull start handle in this photo, see that bump on the bottom on the engine ^ maybe that is the LOS. All you need to do is disconnect the two wires from it.

according to the parts explosion all 5.5 enduro/powersport motors have the low oil shut down.

KKrunch may have a different Tec 5.5. There are so many variations.

CBaller - how did you make out? Was that the problem?

ok well after further investigation my engine is the ohh55-69014G and does not have the low oil shut off. found the parts list here

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecumseh&mn=OHH55-69014G&dn=10EOHH506169014G-EN

so like i said before taking the extra slack out of my chain has made a world of difference. as far as cutting out on uneven surfaces. the only reason i think it is a load issue is that when my chain fell off there was no load the engine made the same sound when it was cutting out, but it just stayed under revved. until i let off and figured out the chain fell off.
