if a new carb fixes it, then you've isolated the problem to your existing carb, which is not all that hard to fix. The best way solve a problem is one step at a time. Try the wires first, then if that does not work, clean the carb, if that does not work, check for air leaks... When you repair concurrently, you deprive yourself the ability of isolating the problem.

I think that you have an ignition grounding issue, which is the same as the low oil sensor issue - momentary false grounds. The symptons are similar, but the "root cause" is slightly different.

1.enging cuts out over rough terrain -> ignition is being grounded -> LOS momentarily engaging due to oil splashing around from bumps

2. enging cuts out over rough terrain -> ignition is being grounded -> LOS not present -> loose wire momentarily grounding to engine from bumps

truth, i think i will actually put the carb on uncleaned and see if the wire fixes the problem, since its not really all that hard to put it back seeing how i haven't taken it a part yet. what size carb do i need to get? if i do need one.

Walboro makes a PZ22 which is like the Mikuni 22VM. Also there are some scooter stores that sell 22MM carbs.

I got my mikuni on Ebay. It was about 30 dollars and works perfect!

first - take the brass jet of the bottom of the float bowl - clean it out and put it back on - see if that works. I think we have multiple issues here.

as soon as i came back from my first test run after i let everything cool down i pulled the jet out and sprayed it with carb cleaner. took it out for another spin same thing happened again.

have you adjusted your float level yet? no point in putting more than $10 into a tecumseh, because there ****. I wouldnt even use one as a boat anchor. Adjust float level, clean carb, and do a plug chop.

do that, and check to see if the oil level is correct, sometimes too much oil in the crank can cause this.

another long shot is a bad ignition coil, can you post a video with sound.

well im home from work now and i will get the video up tommorow afternoon. and when kaptain said "chop plug" what does that mean? also i doubt its a bad coil the thing fires so strong until it gets bumpy. i have not adjusted the float level how do i do that? which way would be the appropriate way? also in regards to scrapping the engines and tecs being crappy in general why is that? apparently there are good motors or the company never would have made money. so what is the bad part about these engines?

Tecs are ok, they were just not built to be pushed, leave the gov on... They ended up not making money on their small engines, lost many contracts, so they sold out to the Chinese. I would expect to see Tec clones at some point.

Use yours until the engine breaks, then get a replacement, not now.

Nothing wrong with Tecumseh products. They seem to have a little more stones than an equivalently sized Briggs.
Carbs can be a little quirky, especially if gasoline is allowed to sit in there for extended lengths of time.
Also, they are less tolerant of multi-grade oils.

Tecumseh is out of business, i have had nothing but bad luck with them.

Russ, my experience with Tecumsehs has been nothing but bad. I'm glad you have had better luck with them, no one i know personally has.

Plug chop, just check the color of your spark plug electrode, should be a golden brown.

Float height, when carb is off engine, and upside down, float should sit level with carb.

the ground strap is nice and tan/dry. the float sits perfectly level and it is even the model with a spring on the float to help stabalize it.

hmmm i'm pretty sure the springs are alright i used that picture to put back, the spring as it fell out once, how im not sure. though its definitely worth revisiting tomorrow. also after reviewing the picture i have the hook on the number 1 slot could that have any impact on my issue?

ok so i started messing with the springs and it definitely is making a difference. cant take it out yet though its been raining all day. it is idling much much smoother in the number 2 slot with the springs bent the correct ways. when the springs were bent properly and inserted into the number 1 hole the engine was idling very high so im assuming to stay away from that hole.
